These have a course screw thread that will old them tight in wood, soft or hard, but I would like to have them paired with longer screws. I purchased the 1 in screws but will have to purchase separate 2 to 2 1/5 in screws to make them work on my project.

Used these when making a kid’s bed. These inserts work fantastic. Had no problem with them; just make sure you drill the correct size pilot hole.

Great product. Worked as they should. As a note, as I was setting these units in aged, very hard, dense hickory I was concerned about stripping the hex head. Especially as I was concerned about the treads pulling out of the wood so I drilled the pilot hole for soft wood. To help reduce friction, I applied some bar soap to the external threads prior to threading them into the wood. The inserts went in easily and I had no issues with stripping the hex heads.

I used three 1-3/4 x 4" wide red oak cleats on the bottom side of my 2" thick oak work bench top instead of c-channel to help keep the top flat. I slotted the holes in the cleats to allow for wood expansion. I attached the cleats to the underside of the top using these 1 inch (20mm) long steel threaded inserts. I used about 25 inserts for this project. I drilled the 3/8" pilot holes using a shop made drill guide and a veritas 3/8" brad point drill bit. After drilling, I chamfered the holes with a counter sink. I drove the inserts in with a harbor freight T-handle allen driver. The inserts went in fairly tight but did not feel like they were too tight. They all drove in with out damage to the inserts or the driver. The 1/4-20 bolts used to secure the cleats fit nicely without any problems. I was able to remove a few inserts and reuse them in a different location with no problems. Best inserts I've ever used. Highly recommed.
