I got these bits to help drill drain holes in some file cabinets I’m converting to planter boxes for my yard. They are good quality. I like how they come in these little containers that say what size they are and the caps fits their ends. They seem to work pretty well even though my drill is old. Overall they work well and for the quality are a good value.

Product Reviewed: 1/16" 1/8" 3/16" 1/4" 3/8" Carbide Ball Nose end Mill Bits Set for $40.TL;DR; Bench review only; fine finish on cutting edges; solid carbideOnly a bench review but typically a look at the attention to the cutting edges tells a story about these carbide end mills. Some attention was made to the cutting edges for sure. By the weight they are clearly solid carbide.5 Stars no surprises. How I review:Reviews start with 5 stars and I subtract points.- 0 for value but I try to provide guidance-0.5 to -3 for product not matching description e.g. stainless steel is actually plated steel-0.5 to -3 for product missing badly on executionI select products carefully so low (1-3 scores) are rare but detailed comments and critiques almost always are in the review. Most of my reviews come out 4-5 range. If possible I dismantle or destroy items to examine inner workings.

I've only run the 1/4" mill on a job with 1018 carbon steel rather than some other alloy, but it did great! This was for a short slot with a radius bottom. I did remove most of the material with a regular end mill before finishing off with the ball nose cutter. The finish was good, given the material, and I could not detect any abnormal dulling of the cutter. This is a nice set, especially to start with, if you need some common size ball nose mills.Definitely recommend these.

I'm not sure if it's the TISIN coating or what, but these seem to be holding up the best so far from the other coatings (AlTiN). Works well on steel. I'm trying to avoid using these on aluminum, as I still need to dial those in.Cutters are sharp, staying sharp, and working hand-in-hand with the mist coolant I've got running. It started to chirp a bit when dialing in, but didn't sing too loud.Great for any kellering/3d work with the ballnose!

For a hobbyist manual machinist, I rarely use ball nose cutters as I simply do not care about rounding internal corners 95% of the time but, those 1 or 2 times every now and then I wish I had one. It simply isnt worth the normal cost of a square endmill to get a specialty one like a ball nose, let alone getting one size really limits the use. Going for a set of standard sizes like this all for the cost of 1 good traditional endmill makes it much more worth it (and less scary to break one and throw away $50!). Solid carbide is great for ball nose and the while the lengths could be an extra 1/2" across the board, these definitely come in handy for that sporadic time here and there that rounding an internal edge is nice or needed without having to flip parts. They all arrived sharp and look good. I cut with just the larger diameters to test it and just like any other ball nose, gotta take it easy and clear chips but I had no real issues. If you are looking for a little set that may come in handy one day, this is the type of purchase to make.

I ran a the 1/4" mill through a scrap piece of 4140 with no issues. I tried cuts up to .050 deep and the bit held up just fine with no chatter or deflection. It left a decent surface finish.

Ball end mills are something that I very seldom need or use. But they are also something that when you need them...you need them and there is not much else that will take their place. These look well made and since they are made of carbide, they will stay sharp a long time. I think that other materials may be more forgiving if they receive a little abuse. But carbide will stay sharp longer...just take care of them.I like that this has a variety of sizes. That is helpful when you are working on something and need, as I say a tool that you seldom use. So having different sizes available certainly helps. These are sharp and I only made a small test cut with the 1/4". It cut well and smooth. I believe it is a good set of tooling.

This set of 5 four-fluted tungsten carbide ball nose end mills have a titanium nitride layer on the surface and are intended for use on a wide variety of iron and steel alloys. With the exception of a 5/16 mill, the set includes sizes from 1/16 to 3/8 in 1/16 increments. Each bit comes conveniently nestled in its own appropriately sized protective case, with each end mill’s size clearly labeled on the outside of the case and also etched onto the shank of the mill itself.End mills resemble drill bits, but end mills can also cut in a horizontal direction. Ball end mills have a nose radius equal to half of the diameter of the shank, and are commonly used for milling contoured surfaces, for slotting, and for pocketing. Plain shanks, like that of these mills, are intended to be used with a collet type holder. The four-flute design allows for faster feed rates, and produces a finer finish, than two or three fluted tools, but the reduced flute space may make chip removal a problem.Overall, I like this set. The appear well made and cover a good range of sizes, conveniently packaged, that make a nice addition to any end mill collection, and an even better value with the current 20% off coupon.
