I used these on a facing mill for a mini mill. It cut clean and easy and left a good surface.

I have a good-sized engine lathe (14x40) at home which I use mostly for cutting steel and aluminum. I prefer the indexable carbide tooling for the majority of my work, and the "D" shaped inserts are good for tight corners. These inserts have a small nose radius at 0.4mm, positive cutting geometry, and a chipbreaker that is mostly for show. I like a small radius for cutting into shoulders, so that's a plus for me. The positive geometry is good for light cuts or less-powerful machinery. I tried a few test cuts with C1144, 12L14, and 1045 (all steels), along with some 6061 aluminum. The C1144 and 12L14 are free-machining steels which I had no trouble with. Surface finishes were acceptable (it's hard to get a good finish with that type of steel). The 1045 is more of a stringy steel and these inserts struggled to break the chips. I tried a number of speeds, feeds, and depths of cut with virtually no chip breaking at all. I tried several cuts in the middle of their recommended settings (only SFM is called out - I couldn't find any info for depth or feed rate). I had a similar experience with the aluminum. My best luck with these was taking very light finishing cuts where chip management is less critical. This makes sense because the inserts are designated "LF" which usually indicates light finishing. Overall I think these are some decent, inexpensive inserts for general finishing and small parts. They are not good for heavy cuts or amazing surface finishes, but they are affordable and they do cut metal.

I've used these on many steels. 1045; 4140 , SS and they hold up very well with right speedsnfeeds

As a amateur home machinist these bits seem to work as well as any I have used.

I'm very impressed with these inserts. The cutting action is very quiet and the surface finish is excellent. All the inserts also sit perfectly coplanar in the face mill unlike the original Accusize trash. I thought there was something wrong with the face mill because of the terrible surface finish it was giving. Turns out, Accusize inserts are just garbage. These have a nice sharp cutting edge that stays cool as long as you stick to the surface speeds on the label. Will definitely buy more.
