About this item

  • Operating voltage: 2.4V-5.5V (enable built-in voltage regulator circuit);2.0V ~ 5.5V (disable built-in voltage regulator circuit) can be externally selected to enable/disable built-in voltage regulator circuit function
  • 3V voltage, low speed sampling rate 8Hz sleep mode: enable/disable internal voltage regulator, standby current: typical value 2.5uA in 16 key mode; typical value 2.0uA in 8 key mode
  • Option is provided to select 8-key or 16-key mode, and 8 independent direct output ports are provided, which is limited to 8-key direct output mode.
  • It has two serial output modes, which can be applied in 8 and 16 key modes, including 2-line serial mode and I2C communication mode, selected by option
  • 8 direct output ports can choose different output types (CMOS/OD/OC has high/low active)

TTP229 is a touch chip designed using the capacitive induction principle.
The chip has built-in voltage stabilizing circuit for touch sensor. The stable touch effect can be applied to various applications. The human body touch panel can be connected by non-conductive insulating material. The main application is to replace mechanical switches or buttons. The chip can independently support 8 touch keys or 16 touch keys.

2-line serial mode can choose active high level or active low level
Provides option selection multi-key or single-key valid function
Provide two sampling rates, the sampling rate in sleep mode is 8Hz, and the fast sampling rate is 64Hz
The maximum output time with Option to select valid keys is about 80 seconds
Sensitivity can be adjusted by external capacitance (1 ~ 50pF)
It takes 0.5 seconds to stabilize after power-on. Do not touch the button panel during this period. All function touches are also invalid.
Automatic calibration: When all keys are not touched within a period of time, the chip system recalibration time is about 4.0 seconds

I ordered these expecting to be able to use them with an I2C bus as per the product listing, and they don't support I2C because they use the 8229BSF, not the LSF variant. End of story.

They do work however it took quite abit of doing and honestly im still abit confused as to what finally made them work. However as previously stated without the I2c compatibility that was listed there not as advertised

I needed a simple I2C touch pad, this seemed suitable. However, it did not show up in my I2C scanner routine and actually does not work with I2C. Upon checking I notice that the very faint chip markings indicate that the Tontek TTP229-BSF chip is used, according to the datasheet it provides a reasonably simple clocked serial interface, but not I2C. The TTP229-LSF version provides I2C interfacing. I just do not have the extra pins for a dedicated serial clock & data signals, nor the time. I am returning the boards, would be good if suppliers clearly specified which version chip is used.
