Nice idea and easy to set up and install but the thing stops periodically and you must reset it.What good is a timer you can't count on! If the manufacturer has a fix, let me know. Past the return window so guess I'll have to trash it. Anyone else have same problem?

It is not easy to install for an ordinary folk. Once installed it works well and easy to adjust.

Used this on garage lights that run off of a photocell. The cells will sometimes keep the light on all day if it is cloudy or rainy. Easy to install this and now the lights are only on from 7PM to midnight just as I set them to be. The on/off/timer switch makes it easy if I just want to run on the photocell too. Easy programming by moving tabs around the timer up and down.

I have owned several of these and prefer mechanical timers after several bad experiences with the digital 7-day variety. If your home is prone to brown-outs or brief black-outs like mine, digital timers frequently need to be reset and their internal circuits seem to be overly sensitive. Mine have either stopped controlling the light after a while or simply become unresponsive to programming. Mechanical options have been the lesser of two evils. This Woods mechanical timer is half the price of many digital timers, is easy to install and even easier to program. However, every single one of these Woods mechanical timers I have had, has failed after about a year of a single on/off cycle per day. The plastic "finger" that is triggered by the rotating wheel, which activates the on/off action, eventually breaks. It is a very flimsy plastic and you would think they would have found a way to replace it with a metal one. This particular timer's "finger" broke during installation and testing on day one. This was my fourth one in three years. I will not be purchasing another one of these. I have an Intermatic brand timer for my front door that has held up for several years, but I have gone through a couple of Intermatic products as well.To be honest, I have not had a single in-wall timer last more than 5 years. I am really only looking for dusk-to dawn operation for those lights, so if you are looking for the same function and don't need fancy on/off scheduling, I suggest avoiding this class of products all together. I plan to explore adding a light sensor to my outdoor lights and move away from using these in-wall timers completely, but after-market sensors can be unsightly for decorative fixture in the front of a home and I do not want to replace the lamps themselves either.

It's a simple unit to use, but one has to take it apart to install it and use a deco style cover plate. You need to be careful when reassembling or it could bind and not work. The picture on the instruction sheet somehow had one of the wires left out of the diagram. The timing accuracy of this unit is horrible, and I have to keep making changes to the dial settings. Woods products used to be reliable, but on this someone missed the boat. I'd like to return it, but now that the Christmas displays are down, I don't require it's use until next season. Besides I don't feel like unwiring the unit from my panel box.

This is a lovely "old school" timer. Ignore any complaints about it not working or being too confusing - those are definitely user issues. Just needs a bit of common sense putting it back together. You need to ensure the dial is fitted into the gear teeth, it's the gear that makes it turn. And for the little cover plate with the arrow, the arrow needs to be pointed down and to the left, pointing at the little white catch pin that turns the light on or off. But it's great - no more annoying LED programmers where the LED light keeps burning out or that take forever to reprogram the thing. So quick and easy to change the timer - just push a pin up or down. Turn the dial to change the time. Couldn't be easier. If you are completely ignorant when it comes to electricity, then - as clearly instructed on the product description - call an electrician. But anyone willing to think and use some basic common sense will be able to install this and will love it!

I have read quite a few negative reviews but thought I’d give it a try. One of the most mentioned issues was that a wall plate could not be located that fit. I added a photo of the instructions regarding that which I will speak about shortly. The timer arrived packaged well from the manufacturer. All the parts and a few extras were included. My particular timer was white. It did not come with a decorative wall plate. The instructions were clear. Basically put, white to white neutral, black to incoming black hot (source), red to outgoing black(light).I did not notice a ground wire or location nor is there mention of it in the manual. The light switch is also made for a 20Amps and also works with all light bulbs. I have confirmed it works with LEDs, Fluorescent, and incandescent bulbs. The switch contains a 24 hour timer which allows me to effectively set a time section to turn on and off. Currently mine is set to turn on at 7pm and off at 7am as seen in the photo. The position of the current time arrow varies on how you put it back on the timer. Mine actually came pointing to the bottom left and I accidentally reversed it to top right; however, this has not prevented it from coming on at the set time.I believe it to be well built. It does not appear to be cheaply made. With that said, the wires are aluminum stranded. The manual switch that sets the timer off, on timer, and manual on works as designed. The wall plate I used was a 2 switch 1 Decorative wall plate made by Eaton. The instructions state to disassemble the timer by removing the time knob, and the face plate(held by 2 screws). Then you install the light according to the wiring diagram. After that secure the timer in the box. Place the decorative light plate over it and screw the plate to the timer. The opening aligns to the timer as you screw the plate and the timer together. Install the timer face place and secure with the two screws. Replace the knobs. The timer faceplate overlaps and sits on top of the decorative faceplate as seen in the instructions and my attached photo. You do not need to enlarge the decorative face plate opening to get it to install over the timer faceplate. All in all, I have no complaints. I would recommend this timer over the digital 24 hour timers as it functions the same and is less costly. I believe that the switch will last 5+ years. I will be sure to update my review if it fails sooner than expected.Update: 15 April 2020. It’s still running strong. As a matter of fact, I purchased three more. Two of which I am mounting in a vivarium. I still recommend them.

Switch is working really good for me so far, it could be less than precise because of the manual pegs but if you are not concerned about minutes and seconds perfection this is a fine product for you. This product is very easy to install but keep in mind that it will only work if the ground wire is connected.UPDATE Timer is now busted it not only does not keep time but quit working all together do not buy this crap, regret my previous take on this item lesson learned here is that should wait a little while before you post a review online and can confirm 100 percent the effectiveness of the product.
