First tested this on a piece of plywood and it worked perfectly to round out sharp corners (photo of one side of original piece, and other side with). I used it on the softwood just out of the box and it was smooth and easy to create this slightly chamfered edge. The other photos show results with 3/4 inch square cherry wood dowel - again it was mostly smooth, quick and easy to round the 4 edges; however, as another reviewer noted, I had to very slightly adjust the blade to a shorter depth. There was minimal chatter in just one area on one of 4 dowels (shown in picture of 2 dowels), but this seemed to be more due to structure of the wood here- and was easily sanded out. The only reason to give this 4 vs 5 stars, is that I wish this came with option to purchase and additional replacement blade. I love the small compact size (and good price) of this- all I need for now.

The handle of this planer is of good quality, and fits very comfortably in the palm of my hand. The blade on the other hand might as well not be there. It will not make a clean cut regardless of depth setting, and simply roughs the edge of the wood.

This is a round over plane, not a chamfer plane as advertised. I’ll be swapping out the included round over blade for a flat chamfer blade at my expense.When I received it, the blade was advanced too far forward so I needed to adjust it slightly so it would take thinner shavings. This was easy to do with the thumb screw.The blade could stand to be sharper, but it did an okay job out of the box (a little rough).However, it seems well made. It’s got some heft to it and it feels good in the hand.
