I set this up and use it to basically split wood that has already been split once but needs to be quartered. Decent instructions and everything seems well built. Disregard the other review that complains about the wrong size Allen wrench. The included wrench is for the hydraulic reservoir plug which the reviewer would have discovered had he followed the instructions. With a felt tip pen I wrote on the flange #1 check the oil. #2 open the relief valve. I taped the wrench to the cord with electricians tape so it won't get lost and the machine will need to be unplugged to check the fluid. The one gentleman's tip about using a leaf blower to clean it off after use is spot on. Thanks for the tip! I also ordered the foot switch but will not use it until I set the unit up on the stand and become more familiar with the splitter.

I'm giving this product 4 stars for the price versus utility (getting the job done). It does a great job of splitting the logs. Compared to other splitters, I liked the price point ($277) at the time of purchase.I had two tall pine trees cut down on my property because they were dying. Therefore, I have many logs to split for firewood for our outdoor fireplace. If I had paid someone to split these logs, it would have cost more than this splitter. Also, my time is valuable. Therefore, I consider this splitter a good deal. It gets the job done quickly and efficiently. However, there are a few cons that other buyers also mentioned:1) The owner's manual does not do a great job of explaining the stand assembly. This was a minor issue since the assembly was simple, but I needed to use my own tools - socket wrench, etc. (and my brain :) ). Also, the handle was not attached to the machine, although the manual implied it was - not a big deal.2) The wheels are not as sturdy as I would prefer for the weight they need to support. They are cheap plastic wheels. These wheels do not roll well on the gravel area outside my workshop, where I do the log splitting. A larger diameter wheel would be better. Also, I am guessing that the wheels will not roll well on soft ground, for example, if you take this splitter into the forest (along with a generator to power it) to split logs. Here is some vital information I don't think other reviewers mentioned:The operator's manual contains critical information. Before you operate the splitter, you need to loosen a hydraulic bleed valve at the end of the splitter. This requirement is not intuitively obvious. The bleed screw is hidden between the handle and the frame. Here is the warning from the manual:"Always loosen the bleed screw prior to operation. This will remove any air trapped in the hydraulic system. Failure to release air from the hydraulic system may damage the hydraulic seals, permanently damaging the Log Splitter."My advice to the manufacturer is to place this warning on a tag attached to the bleed screw. Not everyone is going to read the manual thoroughly. Or, if they read it, they might miss this information.

Log splitter works great and splits big logs! Used to split stuff 20inches in diameter! Only downfall is it showed up damaged and took some jerry rigging to get it to work right. Unfortunately for that I have to give it a poor review. I paid a lot of money for this and am very disappointed.

For the price, you can't go wrong, I normally just split by hand but bought a grapple load this year and it was just too much to do manually. This little guy works great, I've split up to a 22 inch log, maple, no problem, some of my other logs are larger but I just split those in half (too heavy to pick up) and then use the machine, very happy with my purchase. It does go thru some of the gnarly stuff, you just have to watch how you try to split it. Pros: price, easy of use, electric, very portable, stand eliminates a lot of bending, lock on side limits travel so splitting is fast. Cons: broke the plastic bleeder T-nut (a log hit it when splitting, the company sent me a new T-nut, np), its still works but I recommend they move to an allen-key nut and just provide an allen wrench, the side support guides are weak, i've bent both but they still work. I notice after every use, say 3 hours or so, I do need to add about a 1/2 cup of hydro fluid, not sure if this is normal, I see no leaks, I assume its using it to lubricate the piston. I've had it about a month and have split about 4-5 cords so far, all oak and maple.A year later, I'm on my second grapple load, I don't top off with fluid anymore, I assume it was the break-n period, so far I've split about 8 -10 cord, no issue, basically if you can pick up the log you can split it, except the narly stuff, that can sometimes be a challenge, worth every cent.Paul (Rangeleywood)New Hampshire
