This USB tester works great. The included load was very useful to quickly determine the actual output current on all the random power adapters I have around the house. Now I can pick one suitable for the intended purpose. I have ordered some adapters so that I can use the load to check various types of cables too. I noticed that the female connector on the tester is installed in a downward angle. I suspect this is to make it fit in the plastic enclosure. They probably figured that out after the enclosure was already mass produced. This does not affect operation. I recommend this capable little tester.

The meter doesn't have fancy features for triggering or detecting the various usb power negotiation protocols, but for just showing voltage, current, and power, it works great. The cheap usb load included gets very hot pretty fast, after only a minute or two it approaches 100 C on the big exposed resistors, so you'll only want to use it for a few seconds at a time. Still, it can be useful for a quick test if you've got nothing else.

I have purchased 5 of these devices, one for myself and 4 for gifts. It is a very handy little diagnostic tool to determine if a USB cable is conveying power to an attached device (cell phone, card reader, external hard drive, etc.). It allows evaluation of a USB port to see if proper voltage is present (nominally 5.1 volts) prior to plugging anything else into it. It then shows voltage and current consumption under actual load when the external device is the plugged into the tester. Two words of warning regarding the included load resistor accessory:(1) Use the dummy load carefully (the resistors CAN get blistering hot) and only use it to carefully test a “wall wart” power source or external power supply.(2) The dummy load resistors can seriously damage (i.e., fry) a USB port on a computer or tablet if plugged into it.Voltage and current digits are easily seen on the display. My only complaint is viewing other tiny characters (4-point or smaller) on the display when it is plugged into a barely accessible wall outlet - the “behind the chair, down near the floor” kind of outlet. I rated accuracy very high (it displays down to 1 millivolt and 1 milliamp when used on a 5-volt source) although I have not verified its accuracy using a calibrated/certified DVM.

I wanted this device because I’ve had concerns that AC blocks & car charger port adapters weren’t providing advertised voltage or amps. Also, wondered how much loss in signal was created by aftermarket cables, particularly longer ones. This little device comes alive the moment current is running through it. The basics (Voltage & Amps) are easy to read & understand. It confirmed how well my devices were charging. And interestingly it verified that longer cables, if cheaper or poorly made, for the most part lower the amperage, but better cables don’t. Be aware, the Load tester circuit gets really hot quickly. I’m sure it does a LOT more than I’ve used it for so far; but I’m not an engineer & the minimalistic user guide seems written for people who already know the features. Both items arrived in a strong metal storage box with a window to see contents. I’m pleased at the price point.

Great way to gauge the quality of chargers and power banks! Above is a photo of an example discharge test from an Anker powercore 10000.One thing I really appreciate about the meter is persistent mah and mwh stat saving across power offs, and 2 memory locations ( 1 persistent and the other temporary, for mah and mwh). The included 1A/2A load tester is an awesome "icing on the cake" value as wll. As others have pointed out, the resistors do get hot and this is by design, they should have put a warning sticker or something on them =PThe first time u run the load tester, especially at 2A ... it may release a tad of smoke and smell, this is normal.

Been using it to check power bricks mostly but already found a bad cable. Also bought a 1 foot extension cable to make it easier to plug into devices. Only complaint, not really though, is that some of the stats displayed are to small for older eyes. Easy fix, grab my glasses and good to go.Verified voltages and amps with reliable meter and matched up well, at least good enough for union work. Will buy again when I lose this one.

For the price difference, if I were to buy this again, I'd probably get the at35 instead. It's not much more expensive and has sightly higher precision, but no apparent functional differences so IMO not worth replacing when this one works perfectly well. What you get: immediate voltage measurements, immediate and accumulated amps, immediate data line voltage measurements, immediate and accumulated watts, some quick charge mode recognition.Missing frills (it's cheap, what do you expect): No triggers, no automated cable resistance measurements (you'll have to write the numbers down and do the math yourself), no additional power supply port (it is powered by the same port that it's measuring), no micro/mini/C port (full size standard USB A only). The load doesn't come with instructions. It is always on when plugged in. The rocker switch on the back changes between 1a draw and 2a draw. Look at the circuit board for "1A" and "2A" markings on either side of the switch. It doesn't get hot immediately (a few seconds is fine) but it gets untouchably hot quick when left running.

Poor documentation. It never says anything about what the extra piece of equipment is or how to use it. I presume it is a "load unit," but there is nothing in their documentation (neither the abbreviated documentation included or in the documentation provided on their web site) to verify that assumption. Obviously, there is also nothing about how to use it.
