These jigs are made from anodized aluminum. The machining looks precise and the finish is flawless. The ruler gradations are embossed into the aluminum rather than just printed on. The jigs have the look and feel of a fine woodworking tool similar to those sold by companies such as Woodpeckers. With all the attention to detail, I was surprised to see the top retainer on one of the jigs mounted slightly crooked (see photo). This obviously doesn’t affect functionality or performance. But if the manufacturer’s objective was to create and market a tool with an image of a precision instrument, this flaw represents a massive failure. Overall, it’s nice to see and handle jigs with this type of attention to detail. But it’s overkill for a construction tool. As such, these jigs will inevitably drop to the ground sooner or later. The fine finish will be compromised as soon as this happens.I tried these jigs with cedar sidings. The jigs were easy to setup and worked well. They did what they were designed to do. They make single-person installation of full-length pieces possible.

I had to take off a couple stars. The rubber pad placed on the back quickly wore off and I replaced with duct tape on front where it should be. All of screws came loose so be sure to tighten them. Also dimension is close on smart siding and with one piece slipped easily requiring shims, so beware. These are really nice. They will work on half inch material. The only consideration would be that they weigh more than the plastic ones and might bung up if dropped onto a distance onto a hard surface. They look amazing and seem impossible to build for the price. Mine has a rubber pad to stop slipping. Duct tape would also work if it comes off. For ex

They look stronger than plastic ones but they slide down when holding cement board, I had to put doubled sided tape in the slot and crank down as tight as I could without damaging the siding. If they get a material in the that stays in its position and lasts then watch out because then you will have a great product! Messing around with these cost me a full day of work!

These are hands down the nicest set of siding gauges I have ever seen or used. Definitely the first set that wasn't mostly plastic, and these are all metal. The english and metric rulers are great. There's nothing about them that says 'cheap'. I only have one complaint, that they are a little prone to slipping, which can be a killer on a run of siding. I am going to rough up the sliding joint so that it will hold a setting better, and thats about all they need.Really nice gauges, I hate to start working them they look so nice.

I own 7 pairs of lap siding gauges. This set is the most versatile and adjustable set that I have used. The gauges are made of aluminum and use a cam mechanism, similar to what is used for bicycle wheels to tighten the gauge to the siding. Primed Hardie is easy to grip and their refinished lap siding is relatively easy to grip but pre-finished LP lap siding is slick and getting a set of gauges to work on it is difficult. Even the expensive name brand gauges are worthless on the stuff. These gauges are adjustable and can be tightened down hard. They made a huge difference on the siding job I’ve been working on this week. The one caution I have is securing the exposure adjustment. I ended up using an adjustable wrench to tighten it down instead of hand tightening it. The exposure adjustment slipped less than an eight of an inch on one gauge after hand tightening it. Fortunately I caught it within a couple of boards.I would recommend these gauges over any others I have used.
