I got this handheld pinpoint metal detector as a companion to my full sized metal detector. It seems very rugged and does what it is intended to do: pinpoint the item your larger metal detector finds. It does not detect as deeply as a full size detector, but it’s not intended to. I have not used it in water yet, but it is waterproof. It is light and easy to use. It comes with a belt holder for convenience.

I'm a rock hound, but I've historically looked for objects that could be seen at surface level or with minimal digging. Recently, I had a chance to explore some old copper mine dumps, and was encouraged to bring a metal detector. I couldn't spend a lot of money, so after research and with a lightening deal, I got this one. And it works great!Using a combination of this metal detector and a pinpointer, I found lots of copper ore, float copper, and native copper, as well as some metal artifacts from the mine's active days. It rained one whole day, but the detector had no problem with the water (unlike me, 3 layers and I was still drenched to the skin), and worked fine the next day.The depth function seemed to be fairly accurate. The metal identification feature worked, but I'm uncertain how well. Sometimes it would alert that it was detecting iron or silver or something other than copper, sometimes more than one metal in an area. Every time the detector said it picked up something, I was able to find metal, almost always copper. In some of the cases where it was jumping between copper and something else, I found multiple objects near each other. Other times, it said there were multiple types of metal, and I only found copper. I don't know if it was an error from the detector, or if there was another metal object I didn't locate. All in all, I am very happy with this purchase. I don't see myself ever using this detector to look for anything other than rocks and artifacts, and never to make money. For me, this is perfect.

This metal detector is a good buy for the price. Just be sure to know what you need in a metal detector for the price range. This particular product for about $100 will fit the bill for amateur searching… lost ring in grass, locating metal pipes in the yard, coins and such. It’s a good entry level product. Depending on the object it can detect down about 6 inches from my experience. The battery life for me runs about 20+ hours of active searching. It has some features of more expensive brands like adjustable sensitivity and “notch” to exclude types of metal you don’t want. It was very easy to assemble and weighs about a few pounds. You need to expect this product is not perfect for everyone. If you expect high performance, you need to buy a much higher grade of detector for much more money.Pros: great price, ease of use, light weight, bonus carrying bag and shovel, some advanced featuresCons: somewhat slow processor chip (explained later), picks up interference at higher sensitivity setting, not great at pinpointing very small itemsMy experience with this model detector worked good at finding items smaller than a penny and larger. The detector will chirp and give a code for the type of metal it thinks is found. You’ll need to swing the detector about a couple feet per second for rough detection and slower to hone in on an area or ping. If you go too fast while honing in, it seems to lag and lock up a bit. This is probably due to the main processor chip. If you take your time with it you’ll enjoy it more and have less frustration. If you're looking for a very small object, I’d recommend getting a hand held locator/detector as well. The head of this detector is better at covering a larger area than pinpointing, but can get you pretty close with it.If you plan on searching vast areas and need to cover a lot of ground, you’ll probably need an upgraded model. But as mentioned, for amateur use, this detector is quite handy for the price. I definitely recommend reading the manual included to get off to a successful start. Happy detecting!

I have metal detected quite a bit before. My father had a couple older (way older) metal detectors that I had used as a kid. They were top-notch for their day and had all the bells and whistles. They were also VERY accurate; pin-point accurate. That's really all I have to put this metal detector against. So now, my kids got the itch something fierce due to a few glorious YouTube vids from Florida and other locations. We ended up with this detector. It works, it's super simple to use and put together. It doesn't discriminate accurately though. Don't get me wrong, it'll pick up signal, but good luck determining if it's a pop-cap, gold ring or silver dime without having unearthed said target. I took gold, silver and coins out to see how well it can tell the difference; bottom line is that it's all over the place, so prepare to dig a lot of holes. Which brings me to the next point, be prepared to dig a lot for one target, because it is not very accurate. It'll ping off the center, then the right side, it'll end up being more to the left, etc. Eventually you'll get it though, so don't give up.So now that what seems like griping is out of the way, (sorry)...buy it. You are looking because you are wanting to get into it or want someone to get into it. This detector is cheap, lightweight, it compacts awesomely, the carrying case is very nice. And it works. It'll get you or kids or whomever out of the house, get fresh air and exercise and you WILL find stuff; mostly junk of course, but if you keep up with it and visit public use areas like parks or even school playgrounds after hours, you'll find change (maybe enough to pay for the gas to get there and back) or maybe something even better. This detector is a perfect stepping stone if whoever uses it gets the itch.
