Let's be honest, this was mass-manufactured to be as cheap as possible. That pricepoint is why I bought this product, so to complain about build quality would be kind of silly. I ordered 4 of these and one came with the mounting bracket upside down and another came with it backwards. But it was good enough and it got the job done. You need to loop the retractable cord around the knob to lock in place the right a mount of cord. So far it is able to do that just fine with a full load of we t laundry on it. Though the first time you do it you will notice that the cord pulls off of the spring/hook. Its just a knotted cord trying to be to big to go through a hole. It WILL pull through the hole, so you just have to tie it on to the hook or pull it through the hook and tie it on to an object that wont pull through the hook. So basically, it requires at least an IQ of 85 and a little bit of effort and then it works great. I was able to install 4 retractable clothes lines in my basement for $40. Thats a pretty good deal.

We put this on the side of our shed so our kids can pull it out and hang towels on it after swimming. It was easy to install, folds over so it can be kind of hidden when not used, and the kids can easily pull the line out and lock the line in place so it doesn’t sag. We’ve used it all summer and it’s still working great. It’s small so it doesn’t look like a big eye sore and it can be reeled back in and tucked away when not needed. It holds our 4 towels plus suits just fine and is very stable.

The build quality of the plastic shell, however, not so much. The two halves start to come apart when you apply any amount of load on it. Also, the metal mounting bracket came installed upside down (keyholes going the wrong way), and since it's riveted, I need a rivet gun to flip it, which I don't have.

Quality was super low on this product. The plastic housing separated immediately and wouldn't stay together. When installing the mounting screws, one of the screw heads sheared off entirely. Then, on our first use the retraction feature broke and the line would no longer spool. We're handy people so we tried to troubleshoot/repair, but it was well beyond it.

Like 30 bucks for one of these labeled a" dog tie out" or a 9.99 product labeled as a clothesline or whatever. I checked out what it's made of thought I'd give it a try. I bought two of them for the front of the house one for the back of the house, and they worked like a freaking charm. I have a nine-year-old lab and pit mix. He's huge with tons of muscle although I will say he's used to going out on a tie and is gentle and doesn't pull on it if he did, it might be a different story, but if you've got a teeny weenie dog or a dog that is used to knowing there is an end to tie out and he can't takeoff running and go crazy with it, don't pay 30 bucks or whatever for the tie or even more because they can get extremely pricey, might I say, bc this does the trick.

This is my third heavy duty retractable clothesline in over 20 years. That should tell you something about the durability-- especially since my number 2 is still up and working fine. This one is for our little "home away." The one I got up there from a local hardware store had a string (literally!) for the line and didn't even last 6 months. It's not really difficult to put up if you have a drill to start the screws and a step-ladder so you can get the line above your head (so the clothes don't hang on the ground-duh ;>} ). I'll probably have to get another one for home in about 10 years, if I live that long. Have a great day!

This was perfect for between our house and garage. We have approximately 15’ x 15’ patio and this has been a great addition. The line does sag with heavier items like towels but it holds them well all the same. We found that for our family of four we needed more like space so we ordered a second one to have four lines.
