Artificial Turf Professional Installation Guide

DIY artificial turf installation could also be a fun activity for the family.
1. Tools required for artificial turf installation ------ Tape Measure, Sharp Knife, Shovel, Hammer, Broom/Stiff Brush, Gloves, U-shaped nails, Jointing Tape plus Artificial turf glue, A roller or vibrating plate to compact the sand (both can be hired), Weed barrier fabric, Shockpad.
2. How to install artificial grass on soil? 2.1 Get rid of weeds ------ Before installing grass, the first thing you do is to kill grassroots and weeds. Spray the area with a non-toxic weed killer you trust. Weed killers need ample time to work, so it is recommended that you do this at least two weeks in advance. 2.2 Optional: Add the base material ------ Get rid of the top layer of soil, about 3 inches to make room for your new base. Use a shovel to scatter your base material. Generally, in places with a mild climate, you can use gravel, crushed rock, decomposed granite, or any stones smaller than 3/8 inches as a base. Around 3 inches of the base material is needed to improve drainage and avoid slumping. Use a shovel or sand spreader to lay sand 10-15mm thick on the top of your sub-base to provide a smooth surface. 2.3 Recommended: Compact the base ------ Compact the loose material into a strong base with the help of a roller or vibrating plate (both can be hired). 2.4 Optional: add a weed barrier ------ If necessary, after the base is compacted, cover the area with weed block cloth and secure in position with U-shaped nails around the perimeter.
3. How to install artificial turf on concrete? 3.1 Clean existing concrete ------ The uniform standard for the base is that the surface needs to be smooth, clean and level. First, clean your area thoroughly, and then check for uneven surfaces. If they aren't too uneven and can be fixed, you can use self-leveling compounds. 3.2 Optional: install the shockpad ------ Artificial grass turf features shock absorption. But if you feel the area needs better shock absorption, may need the shockpad for support in case anyone falls on the hard surface of the concrete. The concrete surface needs to use artificial turf glue instead of U-shaped nails to fix the shockpad and turf.
Stretch grass before installing. ------ When your newly purchased artificial grass rolls arrive, TURFloid suggests you don't immediately start the installation. Lay the turf flat in the sun for a few hours to allow it to stretch. this will remove creases and the fibers will be in better condition. Brush the grass at the crease in the opposite direction could also help the grass stand up quickly.
The pile going in the wrong direction. ------ When joining pieces of artificial turf, it is important to ensure that the piles on each roll are facing the same direction. Crossing yarn directions will result in poor appearance. Having the yarn direction running toward the house will give the best look from the windows of the house.
The lawn surface looks bumpy. ------ Artificial turf may wrinkle due to an uneven base. The uneven surface can also be caused by poor securing of the seams and edges of the turf. Rough surfaces can spoil the appearance of your lawn, and natural puddles may form on rainy days, causing drainage problems with artificial grass. For a better experience, use a vibrating plate compactor (rental available) to compact the base to ensure the site is thoroughly compacted.
Can I install the artificial turf by myself? ------ Sure, you can. We recommend that the large and full-cover artificial turf pitches be installed by professionals, while some indoor, outdoor, home, garden decorations could be easily handled by the end users. Installing artificial turf could also be a fun activity for the family.
How to prevent poor drainage of artificial grass? ------ Generally, You don’t have to plan for drainage, but if you feel the area needs better drainage, you can place drainage cells, which will facilitate air movement and allow moisture to flow under the artificial lawn. Ideally, there should be a slight fall in the surface to allow the water to flow away.
How to cut the artificial turf? ------ The cut should be done on the back because the cutting process will be easier without yarns, and the quality will be better. Ideally, cutting should be done along the turf gauge, avoiding cutting into the grass pile. If there are protruding strings on the edge, do not pull them, use scissors to cut them off.
