It's an advance pressure transducer than traditional mechanical pressure transducer. Works for oil, fuel, diesel, gas, water, air pressure, can be used in oil tank, gas tank, diesel tank etc.

Working Principle:

Using the piezoresistive effect of monocrystalline silicon, taking monocrystalline silicon as the matrix and according to the specific crystal direction, the elastic element is formed by advanced micromachining technology. At its appropriate position, four equivalent strain resistors are formed by integrated circuit process to form an electric bridge. A constant voltage is applied to the electric bridge. When a pressure (differential pressure) acts on the elastic element, The voltage signal proportional to the applied pressure is output, and the voltage signal is amplified and converted into a three wire 0-5V output through an electronic circuit.

Many people mistakenly think that pressure transmitters and pressure sensors are the same, which represent sensors. In fact, they are very different.

1. The electric measuring instrument in the pressure measuring instrument is called pressure sensor. Pressure sensors are generally composed of elastic sensors and displacement sensors.

The development trend of pressure sensor is to improve the dynamic response speed, accuracy and reliability, and complete digitization and intelligence. Common pressure sensors include capacitive pressure sensor, variable reluctance pressure sensor, hall pressure sensor, optical fiber pressure sensor, resonant pressure sensor, etc.

2. There are many kinds of transmitters. The transmitters used in industrial control instruments mainly include temperature transmitter, pressure transmitter, flow transmitter, current transmitter, voltage transmitter and so on.

The transmitter acts as a signal amplifier. Generally speaking, the transmitter supplies power to the sensor and amplifies the signal. The sensor only collects signals, such as strain gauge, which changes the displacement signal into resistance signal. Of course, there are sensors without power supply, such as thermocouples and piezoelectric ceramics. This type of sensor can usually be used directly.

Pressure sensor generally refers to the sensitive element that converts the changed pressure signal into the corresponding changed resistance signal or capacitance signal, such as piezoresistive element, piezocapacitive element, etc. Pressure transmitter generally refers to a complete set of circuit unit for measuring pressure composed of pressure-sensitive elements and conditioning circuit. Generally, it can directly output standard voltage signal or current signal in linear relationship with pressure for direct collection by instruments, PLC, acquisition card and other equipment.

Difference between pressure transmitter and pressure gauge:

1. The accuracy of the standard instrument required for the calibration of the pressure transmitter is much higher than that of the standard instrument required for the pressure gauge.

2. The pressure gauge only needs to verify the input and output, while the pressure transmitter may need to verify the relationship between the input and communication data.

3. The output of the pressure gauge is scale indication with its own display ability. The pressure transmitter is a current output and must be connected to the ammeter display with corresponding accuracy level.

I bought a 0-1MPA and it only puts out 12mA. It does output 12ma at .5Mpa which is correct but when pressure is increased it will not go above 12mA. I sent it back and received another one and it does the same thing. I did get fast service on getting a replacement but good service is useless unless it works as advertised.

Current will drop below 4ma with vaccum. If you use current to voltage modules adjust calibrate module "zero" i.e. for 4ma to .5v to protect your gear from negative voltages. Pre-attached cable would be better if it were about a foot longer but it worked for me. Thanks for the great economical sensor!

I bought 6 of these transducers that functioned properly for about 2 months. After two months they started failing by leaking from where the fluid port is into the electronics. All of them eventually failed. Poorly made, but I guess that you get what you pay for and shouldn’t expect much from a $34 transducer.
