There's no mechanism to keep the insert in place. Every time you close it, the insert gets stuck to the top plunger and needs to be pried off before you can refill it. I literally had a butter knife next to me while using it so that I could pry the insert off after every use. Just a massive design oversight. Look elsewhere.

Here are my thoughts:[PROS]😀👍PERFORMANCE: This ricer handles cooked potatoes as smooth as butter, helping you produce perfectly smooth mashed potatoes.👍EASE OF USE: It takes relatively little effort to use the press - even for petite people like myself and my elderly mother.👍MATERIAL: Made of stainless steel, the frame feels durable and sturdy.[CONS]🙁👎DESIGN FLAWS: The plates aren’t secured in the ring, causing them to stick to the press each time you press a potato through. This means you have to remove and reinsert the plate for each potato, which is quite annoying. At one point, the plate got tilted and stuck, and I couldn’t dislodge it until the following afternoon. This could be a major inconvenience if you’re in the middle of cooking.👎STORAGE ISSUES: The ricer is somewhat clunky to store, and the plates and ring can easily be separated. This might be a common issue with ricers, but it’s still worth noting.👎ADDITIONAL TOOLS: It comes with a wavy potato slicer, but it’s made of hard plastic, not metal, so I didn’t bother to test it.Overall, while the Victoria Shop Potato Ricer excels in producing smooth and delicious mashed potatoes, the issues with the process and storage should be considered before purchasing. If you can overlook these inconveniences, it’s a great tool for your kitchen. 👩🍳🥔
