I bought this for the wife. Of course, being a big kid, I brought it out to play with and "quality control". It was very bright and in the low light of the house at the time, it easily grabbed the attention of the wife's gigantic and very ill mannered Manx cat, Darryll. Darryll immediately mistook the laser dot as prey and instincts kicked in. At this time, I didn't even notice the oversized death merchant and was unaware it had nefarious intentions for both me and the red witchcraft in my hand. I bounced it playfully along the wall and floor, back and forth, oblivious to the impending doom that awaited me. About 1/1millionth of a second after first contact, Darryll leapt to action, and in a move described by onlookers as a whirlwind of claws and blood, went to work on my bald head with fervor. I don't know how my hairless scalp coralated to red laser dot on wall, but in his mind, there was one hell of a connection. After removing the whirling derbish from atop my dome and launching him through our second story window to what turned out to be a watery landing in our pool, I surveyed the damage from the severe lacerations rendered to my now bloody and torn melon in the shiny spot on our fridge because I didn't want to spew blood all over my wife's carpet and risk further detriment to my person. Lucky for me, my wife was out shopping with our boys and I was able to clean up the blood and mess from my run in with the ferocious feline. I did however forget to wipe off the blood from the laser and she was very inquisitive as to the origin of the red crust besmirching the otherwise pristine coating on this superior product. When she used it to sight in her Desert Eagle it worked awesome. Not so good for her bazooka.4.9 Stars

I gave this product only 4 stars because it came from the factory with the laser beam not centered, and thus not immediately useable. It has 4 screws at the laser mount which can be used to adjust the beam to the center and parallel to the bore shaft. As received, if the device was rotated, it drew about a 4" circle with the laser. To adjust it, I chucked it into a 3-jaw variable speed drill, and slowly rotated it until the dot was at the top of the circle, then loosened the screw pointed down and tightened the screw pointed up, angling the beam towards the center of the circle. I repeated this process several times until the drill could be spun up and the light simply rotated as a point instead of drawing a circle.I then mounted the "correct" rubber bore plug to the end of the shaft, and found that it couldn't be adjusted by tightening to fully fill the bore. Instead of stripping the screw trying to expand the plug further, I wrapped the plug in a slightly oily cleaning patch (as suggested by a previous reviewer) and it fit perfectly into my .22 cal bore and slid in smoothly. Then I turned it on and adjusted the "green dot" mode of my red-dot type optical sight for elevation and windage until the green dot seen in the sight optic sat directly on top of the red dot from the laser sighter. Easy peasy.I then switched to the plug for a 9mm pistol with iron sights, and inserted the sighter into that pistol. Although this pistol does not currently have adjustable sights, the red dot projection from the bore sighter sat directly above and on the front sight of the pistol when the front and rear sights were aimed in proper alignment, confirming that those sights were properly positioned on the pistol to be used for aiming it. Next stop, the shooting range.Though it required adjusting as received, the bore sighter is easily worth its $13 Amazon price, saving a lot of ammo and grief getting my "red-dot" sight initially aligned on the pistol. I think that if the user is patient and gets it adjusted correctly (which, honestly, the factory should have done) it is just as accurate as more expensive ones. It is well machined and comes with everything you need to use it with pistols or rifles. If you also want to use it with shotguns (why bother, if it's a shotgun?) there are other similar products which include additional "plugs" to cover those much larger sized bores for a slightly higher price.

Upon first opening the box this seems to be a good, straight forward device which should be a great help in sighting in my long-guns.I did notice that there was some mislabeling of pictures, though, with the captions for the .280 to .349 and .220 to .270 being reversed. Then I attempted to use it on a Marlin carbine of .30-30 caliber.Following the directions I placed one of the guides on the end of the laser device and screwed it down. My first attempt was with the .280 to .349 guide. Despite running the screw all the way down its length, the plug never became tight in the barrel; so, larger guide. That guide worked just fine. I didn't even need to tighten down the screw very much.Lined up my sights, which was very simple and easily done, and then was ready to put the bore sighter away. That's when the problems began, and the reason for only three stars: The screw pulled completely through the guide plug, leaving a blockage in the barrel of my carbine. Not a good thing, but easily fixed by running a rod with a cleaning jag on its end through the barrel. This problem is easily fixable. A small washer, slightly smaller than the guide so as to not scratch the barrel, placed between the head of the screw and the guide should prevent pull-out from happening in the future.Otherwise, if the user was at the range, there is the chance that the plug would not be noticed as missing and someone could attempt to fire a rifle with a blocked barrel.
