The manufacturer says that these are made to manage litter box odors for about two weeks. Given that it is two of these for like $15, I would say that it is expensive for what you are getting. They could probably include 5 for $15 and still make a profit, but what I do I know?Having said that, they do a decent job of holding down odors, but you will also have to manage the waste bin on your automated litter box and your litter level as these are not designed to deodorize all by themselves.

These are not deodorizers, they create a masking odor to cover the scent of cat waste and the scent is just a different type of offensive. While it undoubtedly helps, it is certainly not worth the $15/month price and the inadequate design of the PetSafe Smartspin to have to rely on these cartridges only speaks to the long history the company has of creating unnecessary faults in their devices that can only be remedied by a monthly subscription to their solutions.The PetSafe SmartSpin litter box relying on proprietary liners and deodorizing cartridges is a repeat of the PetSafe ScoopFree litter box which relied on cardboard cartridges pre-filled with crystal litter at an absurd premium. This was the only option because there was no bottom of the litter box, just an open space for the cardboard liner. I only kept that box because some savvy person online created a permanent, plastic litter bottom so we might use our own crystal litter apart from PetSafe. That made the product affordable. And I cannot wait until some savvy genius decides there's opportunity to improve upon PetSafe's scheme here with these overpriced pieces of plastic and creates an affordable alternative and eat PetSafe's lunch for themselves.If you are a third party company out there looking to create a new product that people will buy for years to come, you will find a customer base waiting to replace PetSafe right here.

It's insane to me that these are $15 - $20 when you need to use BOTH of them to get "up to a month" of deodorization. When you first put a new one in, there is a noticeable decrease in odor, but it definitely doesn't last that long, maybe 3-5 days at best. The worst part is that there doesn't seem to be any alternatives or 3rd party versions that fit this exact litterbox. I wound up just getting an Ozium gel deodorizer and it works so much better than these do and at half the cost.
