Installs easy enough in a 1/2 inch hole. You may need to bore out the hole a little extra with the drill to get a loose fit. It should fit loosely - do not wedge it. Oh and do not, under any circumstances, unscrew the lens assembly. This is the metal collar that goes to the outside of the door. I accidentally unscrewed the collar when trying to remove it from the door (see previous note about making sure it's a loose fit) and all the king's horses and all the king's men could not put this part together again. I have to order a replacement because of my blunder. Learn from me, don't remove the lens cap. Picture attached to satisfy your curiosity.

We have a foam-core metal door. I had to buy a new bit to drill the hole, but otherwise this is extremely easy to install. Works great and looks good.
