About this item

  • Difference: It is different from the series of dual-narrowband -eNhance and L-eXtreme in that L-Ultimate is a dual-3nm bandwidth filter that only passes through Ha and Olll emission lines. You will get a darker I sky background, more contrast of the image and the suppression on stars. L-Ultimate has also been optimized in terms of halo performance, so that there is no obvious halo when shooting on a bright star object.
  • Advantage: 1.The advantage of L-Ultimate is that it only passes through the emission lines OllI (500.7nm) and Ha(656.3nm), in which case all other light pollution emission lines are eliminated so that only the emission and reflection signals of the nebula are captured during imaging. Therefore, the sky background of the image is darker, and the contrast between the nebulae and the signal-to-noise ratio are improved to the greatest extent. In heavy light pollution areas, the product can also selectively filter light pollution and clutter signals through the emission lines of nebulae, and finally avoid the impact of light pollution on astrophotography.

Introduction: It's about a 3nn dual band designed to drastically reduce the effect of light pollution, the 3nm isolates the nebulae's emissions into H-Alpha (red) and Olll (green-blue). It blocks light pollution, maximizes the signal from nebulae, and darkens the sky background. It also blocks artificial light from mercury vapor lamps, high and low pressure sodium vapor lights, and unwanted natural light caused by the emission of neutral oxygen in our atmosphere. Maximizes the transmission of the main emission lines of the nebula in OllI (496nm and 500nm) and H-alpha (656nm). Used with DSL, color/MONO CMOS and CCD, however, this filter is not suitable for fast ratio systems.

This filter won’t work on fast lens, unless close the aperture to f4 or more. At f2.8 totally unusable

No star halos like I used to get with the L-eXtreme. Much happier with this one.

I upgraded to the ultimate from the extreme filter. Using an esprit 100 with 2600mc. This filter like the extreme is amazing for pulling more details from the light polluted sky's around me. I upgraded because I was getting a few too many star halos with the extreme. With the ultimate this issue has been drastically reduced. It still has random halos, but nothing like before. Expensive but worth the price for what it allows you to see.

Unfortunately this filter will still produce halos on some stars but not as bad as most others and the contrast helps to produce images nearing monochrome with a good cooled OSC making it absolutely worth it. I own all Optolong Filters and was expecting a harder time with focus on this one with only 3 nm bandpass but had no issues focusing or acquiring targets as anything with Ha or Oiii pops very nicely with a 10 second test shot on 294MC with Redcat51. I do this all manually with a Skyguider Pro and had no issues.
