This is my second one. I returned the first as I could not hear any audio difference between the MOVO VXR10 and the S9 microphone. MOVO support thought it might be a defective mic and suggested an exchange. The replacement was slightly better. There was more of a difference with the VRX10 connected to an old video recorder. The PR-1 grip is nice. It makes the phone easy to hold and holds it tight. The cold shoe will allow me to attach the mic or other accessories. It also connects well with my tripod. I have to add that the MOVO tech support was FANTASTIC. They responded promptly to my emails. (Their voice/phone support is limited) . Although I'm not 100% satisfied with the mic, the price point, quality, and tech support will bring me back for other MOVO products.

This product was very easy to set up and worked like a charm with my Note 8. The sound quality is much improved with the attached mic and I watched a video on You Tube, comparing this set up with the Rode, and the reviewer much preferred this one, which was $20 cheaper, so this is why I bought it. I got set up in little under 15 minutes (with the unboxing, a quick read of the instructions, etc.) and I was able to start shooting. The main con I can list is that the frame and handle is very well-made, and I mean, it's heavy, so if you've been used to using just self-sticks, you're in for a surprise; however, I was able to hold it without issue. Also, in the beginning, it may seem as if it doesn't fit your phone (especially for those who have Notes, like I do, but I was able to adjust it without issue, even though at first, I thought it wasn't going to fit.

I purchased this item to use with an iPhone 8 Plus, largely to shoot video, time lapse video and do some interviews with for work. The product seems very sturdy, albeit a little heavier than I was expecting. It holds the phone very securely. There is an attachment that extends the grip a little bit for handheld use, it isn’t necessarily helpful for my purposes as I plan to use this primarily with a tripod. I wish the grip was larger so that it would fill my hand more comfortably, but that would increase the size of the overall product and that would negate the point of its design. It is designed to be a small, portable, unit to hold your phone for shooting with a tripod or shooting video. For that reason I believe that it is very well designed. Now, the grip extension piece is honestly a little too heavy in my honest opinion. Now there are pros and cons to this; if it was light, say made out of hollow aluminum, it would be very light and maybe they could make a larger grip made out of a plastic or aluminum for this, but that may not be what you would want per se...from my experience of shooting video is that a light rig makes for easy to shake footage. So when it comes to stable video (without a gimble) you really want some weight on your tripod as the smallest breeze or vibration can shake your camera. For example, one photographer I know literally adds weights (like sandbags) to his tripod to hold it steady while working. So while I may feel that his product is heavier than I’d like to be, (my camera bag is already incredibly heavy as it is) on the other hand I welcome the weight as it will help me while actually shooting. The microphone itself seems well made. It is very small, but seems capable. I personally do not plan to use the furry cover, as it seems too thick and mutes the sound too much in most settings. However in very noisy conditions such as high wind or loud concerts it seems very useful. I initially wanted this to shoot video with an iPhone, but I also can use the microphone for shooting with DSLRs and a Micro 4/3rds camera, which is actually very helpful to me. I normally shoot video with an Olympus OMD, which does a really good job for what it is, and I usually just use the onboard microphone, which usually works fine, but with other cameras, such as a DSLR, the internal microphone often picks up camera noise, so this microphone will prove invaluable across multiple platforms. That alone makes this a very good deal!(To explain; I will often shoot video for different reasons, I shoot video for the file sizes I want. Shooting video with a full frame DSLR will give the best footage, but the video file size will be massive. So if I don’t need a big file I shoot with a Micro 4/3rds camera or an iPhone.)So long story short, I feel this is an incredibly nice product for what it was intended for.

I purchased this mic kit after reading and watching a number of reviews comparing the Movo, Boya, and Rode shotgun mics. Generally performance in the reviews was comparable, with maybe a slight bit more clarity from the Rode, but a higher price tag plus the need to buy a cable that would do TRRS connections like those for smartphones. Ultimately I purchased this kit and it works quite well. A few things I noted:-Having the cold shoe mount on the smartphone holder is a great piece that helps the set-up.-I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and it is so wide that it takes a while to unscrew the smartphone holder wide enough to fit in the phone. After that though, it does hold the phone quite securely.-Maybe my Note 8 has great microphones, but at close ranges it can be hard to tell the difference between the phone's mics and the Movo mic. At further distances (greater than about 3-4 feet) the Movo mic does have a little more clarity and focus with less ambient room noise.-As others have noted, the shock mount is very tight for the microphone. I've managed to seat and un-seat the microphone in the mount without breaking the mount, but it is tight enough that some greater care is warranted.-I guess I should have read the product description better, but I was a little surprised that the kit didn't come with a carrying bag (the mic by itself comes with a bag). It isn't necessary, but would have been a nice touch for storing and transporting everything.-The dead cat seems decent. Haven't tried it outside yet to see how it handles those circumstances.-While the handle for the smartphone holder is small (only about 2"), it was sufficient to get a decent grip on the assembly to hold for recording videos. Any bigger and it would be a bit cumbersome, especially in transporting.-I don't have a use for them right now, but I appreciate the flexibility of having three 1/4" thread locations around the smartphone holder. There's one on the top, one on the bottom (tripod/handle mounting point), and one on the front (attach a light maybe?).Overall, a pretty decent kit, and probably the best value out there if you are looking for a smartphone holder/mic combo.(Note, I'm a hobbyist, not an expert/pro, who is just getting into making videos for teaching and training purposes. This fits that niche pretty well, but if you want the best there are probably better options; you'll pay more for them too though)
