This guy is a little heavier than what you'd expect, as other reviews have pointed out. Also, the first one of these I ordered didn't work, but they promptly replaced it—no big deal, and they were easy to work with on that. Probably just a bad fuse.

Since I had a place to plug in, certainly simpler than replacing the failed (70 year old) hardwired doorbell transformer on the side of my electrical panel. It looks like the old transformer was 10v, and this 12v AC plug-in works fine, lighting up the doorbell button, and of course ringing (this is old school electro-mechanical stuff). Remember, this is AC, not DC (most older doorbell systems are low voltage AC).

This should work for any 12 Volt AC application (Not DC) that requires less than 3 amps. It is very solid and includes a screw hole to screw onto your outlet (which you should use since it is rather heavy). The LED shows you it is powered, a very nice feature that is not typical.I used it for my Mosquito Magnet Patriot Plus. I shorted out my old transformer which caused it to burn out. I just had to transfer the cord from the old transformer. Use the two outer terminals for your 12VAC. The center terminal is probably a ground, but I am not sure. However, I am certain the center terminal has no electrical connection or voltage to the other two.To protect this transformer from burning out from a short circuit, I suggest putting in an in-line 3 amp auto fuse.

I bought this to test out low voltage landscape lighting prior to burying cable. Works great, but I was out of spade lugs and only had ring terminals available to wire to it. The transformer uses captive screws, one of which would not come out no matter how hard I tried to remove it, so I couldn't use a ring terminal on it. Taking away one star for the aggravation it caused me.

This works great just like it should. My old alarm transformer was so old the beige color was even changing. This was super easy to install and the little Green light in the front lights up just fine. This is very heavy. Heavier and bigger than my old one. So yes you do need to screw it in so it holds on. Don't just plug it into the socket. Make sure to also use that screw that is included. Mine was labeled with little stickers.. AC,GND,AC. I am happy with it, it works fine.
