Their synthetic shells feature a rubber bottom to prevent slippage or scratching and are shaped to allow air to escape from the shell. This creates a low fundamental tone that resonates fully. The boom SERIES pre-tuned synthetic heads give a robust attack, while the SOFT SOUND SERIES pre-tuned Napa heads have a warm, softer attack followed by a deep sustain.

Drum has no tone

I happened across this set when I was searching for replacement Napa drum heads, since I love the deep rich sound the synthetic leather-like material makes. The nestling design is great for saving space while storing, and for easy transportation. The included mallets are actually quite large, which was a pleasant surprise considering how often drums only come with small and lightweight beaters. The shells are a lot more "floppy" than I expected, not necessarily a bad thing, I'm just used to drum shells being rigid and inflexible. The two largest sizes, the 12" & 14", both have good resonance, but I found that the smallest one doesn't offer much "boom". The sound changes quite a lot when using the removable head as a handheld frame drum, it sounds fine, but loses all the power it has as a full drum.In my experience, I have found that children don't like using their hands to play drums, and prefer to use sticks/mallets. As such, this set is perfectly suited for that purpose. The main drawback to Napa heads is that they tend to have a "one-note" design. that is, you don't have a different center tone and edge tone that a normal drum head would have.
