Made the decision to try and reduce chance of my prop being stolen. Ordered this item as the concept made sense. Very similar to automotive wheel locks, requires special key to remove nit. Very well made with good instructions.

Installation was a breeze. You will need a torque wrench to set the keyed bolt. I have run my boat several times and everything is working well. Security against prop thieves is a great feeling- after having mine stolen- $800-$900 for a new prop.

This seemed like a great idea. When I installed the lock, the incorrect washer was packaged. Since I was putting the boat in the water, I had to use the existing washer. I was finally able to touch base with McGard and was told that I must replace the washer because the prop could fall off. This is a pain since I do not have a trailer for the boat and will have to be creative in how I do this with the boat in the water. All I received from the company was a new washer and a "sorry about that".

I had recently purchased a Glacier Bay 2680 catamaran, with twin Yamaha 150 outboard motors, When I buy something, I like to do all of the maintenance to it, to give me a piece of mind knowing its been done recently, and also to make things last longer. When i purchased this boat, the owner had passed away, and one of the motors had a lock like this on it, but I did not have a key to remove it. needless to say, it took me a long time, and thought in order to be able to remove this with out damaging the lower unit, or the prop. after a while I was finally able to remove it, but know what I had to do to get it off, I though it would a good idea to replace it with one that I have a key for. If you have ever had to replace a prop, then you know they aren't very cheap. When I received it, the package looked a little old, but everything in the kit looked like it was just made. Installing it was very easy, the instructions tell you what to torque it to, which was nice. The only down side, is that with this, lock installed, I was not able to put a cotter key back in it, but was ok, since it came with a compression washer, and a nylon locking ring on the inside of the nut. I have put several hours on the boat since I have purchased it, and I haven't had any issues with it. I wash my boat, and flush my motors really well after each use, since it is always used in the salt water. So far neither the nut or washer show any signs of corrosion. I would defiantly recommend this to any one who wants a piece of mind, and who wants to keep the honest honest.

Looks good so far easy to install and of course will not stop a knowledgeable thief with the right equipment but will make them work for it. To defeat the lock all you need is the collar with one indentation and you can get the lock off so not entirely foolproof.
