Nice to have these around for testing things around the house. Found my antique tea pot is covered in lead based ceramic baked on paint. Yikes! Gives me peace of mind for newer items I purchase that seem very inexpensive and worry that the manufacturer used cheap materials that might contain lead. Also, garage sale items can be tested to see if it is safe to use for food.

The swabs function as advertised, but they are not certified by the EPA. Lead Certified renovators have to use swabs or test kits that are certified by the EPA.

Happy with this product, shows good value for money for what it does. I didn't test this against any other metals but did check against water, it didn't test positive. And against paint I thought was lead paint in the house. Really easy to use and seems to show correctly which paint contains lead. Happy with the functionality as only wanted it to see if I need extra precautions.

Bought these to test if there was any lead in our older home. Did a couple test strips on items I knew had lead in them and it cameBack positive immediately!

Found lead in two rubber dog toys from Centinela Ped and Feed Supply store. Also found lead in the "CarMax" keychain from them. Also lead in my 2011 pathfinder hard cased keyfob. Just dip in water, not vinegar, and rub it on the item you are testing. They turn from orange to noticably red if there is lead.

This swab is impossible to read and are inaccurate. The displayed colors on the canisterare poorly colored so “impossible” to read. I tested a solid piece of lead and it did turn bright “red” meaning it has lead but not purple as indicated on the container.

Would give -3 stars if i could, this product is a sham.We got a heart attack because what we wanted to test turned postive, we proceeded to then test other stuff as a control, and guess what? All positive. We got suspicious and started testing random objects that couldn’t possibly containing lead. They also turned positive! We had a few 3M tests left, that sadly are now unfindable, and of course in the end only one of the tested objects was actually positive.

My rent house is old and has lead water pipe, soI bought this product to make a test. As for the above picture, purple one is the water from water pipe of my rent house, and yellow one is the water bought from Kroger. To avoid the accident, I did this test twice. In the end, the results is the water in my house actually has lead. I will contact with my home host. Hope she can help me

Easy enough to use. I tested 4 items and 1 came back positive so it seemed clear enough on the color change. Actually tested each old painted item twice w same results.

Easy to use and accurate. We detected lead after suspicious paint was found when renovating. Make sure you use filtered water to wet before application.

I definitely found some lead in my home by using these test swabs 😳. Sometimes the color seems. a little borderline to me. (I know this isn't the ideal way to test for lead in many items anyway, but still... there were a few I wasn't sure about the results on) However, most of the tests were pretty easy to read. Didn't seem to work on most of my dishes (although the pizza stone tested positive. And also the paint on the outside of a bottle.) A bunch of knobs and cabinet pulls that look like brass tested positive. Two of my yoga mats tested positive too! I bought a second batch of these because now I I want to test stuff before I buy it at thrift stores. (By the way, sometimes you can rinse off the swab and reuse it to test another item if the first item was negative. A little trick I figured out...)
