After a futile hunt for an old Kay or Harmony banjo, I settled on a Kmise 5 string open back banjo. For the price this is surprisingly well-made with a nice maple/ebony bridge. The drum head surface is a bit coarse, but keeps the anchor fingers from sliding. The neck is decently made of okoume with a dark hardwood fretboard with unpolished brass or something-nickel frets. The satin wood finish is well-done with no defects. The 5 tuners are smooth and attractive. I have some skills at guitar repair, so cleaning up the frets will be fun. One thing to consider is the balance of the instrument. The light pot (body) allows the neck to drop while playing. This can be resolved with a leather strap that grips the shoulder to prevent slipping. The picks and strap I received were unusable, but the tools, spare stainless strings and tuner were okay. The padded case is welI made and usefulo.I tend to like the open-back tone that doesn’t advertise my newbie status, and my wife never complains.

A beautiful banjo. Very high quality, with a great tone. Super value for the price. All the accessories including a spare set of strings. I am more than happy with the purchase. It makes a great first banjo to learn on.

Structure, appearance, playability was very surprising considering the price. Over time I have purchased several ukuleles from Kmise. I have never been disappointed with Kmise past of present. In my experience with Kmise the quality far exceeds the price.

Took me a bit time to tune it then it turned out fun to play, I basically played in the same way as a Ukulele but it sounds louder

So far this has been a great banjo for a beginner player. It sounds good, has a nice sturdy construction and sits well in my lap. My only complaint is with the thumb pick that came with the banjo, I found it too large and unwieldy, but I'm sure that's a case by case basis. All in all it was worth every penny spent on it and then some.

I think this is a nice value for a beginner! I have no experience playing the banjo and this seems to be a great option for someone wanting to learn the banjo. There are really only a couple things I can complain about. When I opened package and pulled the wrapping from the banjo itself the 5th string tuning button(that was loose I guess)and washers and screw flung out and across the room. I had to go searching under the furniture for these tiny pieces...but luckly I found them and was able to easily reattach them to the banjo. There were also not any instructions on how to set up this banjo, as the bridge needed to be set up before playing. I found a couple videos on YouTube that showed me that this is normal for a banjo to come this way, and helped me figure out how to set it up properly and get to playing it. It was a totally pretty simple and easy to set up!So now on to the instrument aesthetics! It's very nice and smooth, wood finish is a beautiful matte wood finish and I cant find any flaws or nick's in the finish. The fret board is smooth and not at all sharp. The parts that are chrome finish are nice and shiny and I dont see any flaws in the welds. It seems well constructed!I had to do a little research and figure out some picking, strumming and chords and it feels good. The strings have a light touch and my fingers easily glide over them with no issues holding them down to make proper notes and chords. So far I'm liking the sound! It is LOUD and full,it just really sings! And really booms if you hit the strings hard enouph! It's pretty NEAT!Case and accessories are like listed and great...makes it a nice kit for a beginner.I wish there were more instructions for a beginner, like how to set up the bridge and maybe a basic learn how booklet with tuning basics and chords, but if your interested in playing you will likely source this elsewhere. I would suggest if getting this for a beginner maybe also purchasing a beginning banjo book. I will likely be getting one because after messing with this my son now wants to play. All in all I would say this is a great buy! There is nothing else that includes everything for a low price like this on Amazon. It's a great value and would be awesome for starting out!

oh well. phooey on me.if you're a musician with strictly limited space and budget (like me!) this seemed like a perfect solution. love the banjo sound and the uke range. had an antique one of these in high school. it made that distinctive banjo twang. so i assumed this would too.nope, nylon strings. not that the company cheaped out. rather, banjos may use steel, but ukes use nylon. this is a banjo-looking uke, rather than a uke-sized banjo. for kids learning (and parents tolerating), it's surely ideal. but for a (early jazz) musician, this just isn't even close.a bit misleading since the page never mentions it at all. in pics, nylon and steel strings look alike enough. but am not too disappointed. it's still a fun toy to own, not a fortune blown, well-made instrument. got my moneys-worth. possibly, they even stopped making the kind i'm thinking of in by the 1950s.good luck.

I would recommend that you buy a fret file from Stew-Mac and dress the frets. They are not impossible to deal with, but they are a little bit uncomfortable. It doesn't take a lot of work, but you'll be glad you did. This uke banjo looks nice: the neck has binding, the body has purfling, the inlays on the frets are pretty. The banjo is sturdily built. Plus, I've played it for over a year and not broken a string. If you want to try a banjo uke and do not want to invest a lot of money, buy this uke banjo. I really think that you would have to pay over 400 bucks to buy anything any better. Is it loud? I don't think so, but my wife complains about it being too loud when I use it for practice. Oh yeah, you might notice in my picture that there is a pickup installed. That's also available on Amazon. (search for "Imelod piezo") . Run it through a pre-amp and that pickup will work nicely.

Nice quality and loud. I was surprised how much acoustic volume the drum skin adds. Product arrived sooner than estimated and came from Hong Kong. The box was a little crushed but there was no noticeable damage to the uke. Did need to keep tuning it for the first week as expected, but the 'A' string broke twice at the drum end until I tied it with a triple knot. Hopefully it is not due to a sharp edge on the string hole. It was a gift for my son and he seems happy with it. So, for a first time banjolele buy, it was worth it.
