Bought this to test lineset temperatures on AC units. First thing I noticed was the clamp probes did not say the same temperature in a glass of water and ice. Then I tested them in a calibrated bath and they both measured differently. One probe was .1 degree off and the other 1.5 degrees off. Not the end of the world for AC lineset temps but I would like to see more accuracy.

I got this thermocouple to measure accurately high temperatures without regard for emissivity. I already have a Laser Thermometer Gun Infrared Temperature Meter w/Adjustable Emissivity (Amazon) with which I can measure high temperatures having the system far away from the heat source but you can't get an accurate reading unless you know the emissivity of the source. This thermocouple kit comes with all the needed thermocouples including a set with clamps for convenience. The mostly well-written English operating manual/sheet covers safety concerns and how to use the equipment.I appreciate that this comes with a removable rubbery plastic protective covering (bright orange) to protect the device in case of fall. But unfortunately you have to remove it in order to access the battery (1X 9V) compartment. The battery compartment is hidden under an adjustable backstand so you don't need to read the device at an uncomfortable angle. The battery compartment is held closed by a noncaptive screw (#000 or #00? Phillips Drive), which can be lost if dropped. Suggest removing a small noncaptive screw over a large open cardboard box so in case it's dropped you can easily retrieve it. Suggest improvement in the design would be a captive screw or a snap closure. In conclusion: highly recommend

At first I was really happy because both clamp probes read exactly the same temperature when they were in the room. They were even accurate when compared to my Thomas 4307 traceable dual thermometer. Perfect performance right? The problem arose when I clamped one of the probes to a vent to measure the air temperature. As I moved the meter around, the reading changed! Could've been caused by a loose connection or bad wire but I didn't feel like diagnosing the problem, so I returned it. It would've been awesome if it didn't do that.

We purchased 4 of these for our HVAC school. They are erratic sometimes a 10-degree difference when they are side by side on the same copper line. they say that ice is 46 degrees. Tried all 4 all different readings.
