I primarily use this machine to sew elastic into spandex/lycra fabrics for swimwear. The serged edges have elevated my garments to a more professional level.Easy to use. I don’t know why I’ve waited so long to purchase.

This machine is excellent in every way. The instructions have to be followed exactly and this requires one to read and understand the manual completely. If you do this and you don't accidentally feed metal through the needles you will probably enjoy having this machine for a very very long time. I've used it to make bags and clothing and piping and all kinds of things or I use it without any thread to cut out shapes from fabric. Be skeptical of bad reviews of this machine it is been around and it is well loved for very good reason. This machine is quiet if the needles are new and properly installed. There is no need to fret about threading it if you set it up on a table or platform at eye level. It is very lightweight and easy to do. This easily chops through two layers of upholstery fabric with cotton liners. I have used it with three and four threads. of the adjustments that are available are really great. It will do Ruffles and all of that but again you have to read the manual and follow the instructions and if you do so it is easy to use. So this will only be difficult for you to use if learning is difficult for you because the manual is very well written.

A bit intimidating to thread at first but practice (and more practice) makes perfect. You can run it without fabric to make the “chain of thread” just to test if you threaded it correctly. Once you have learned that the lower looper thread goes over the upper looper, you can do a thread sequence strictly right to left.

Yes, I like sets! I'm a huge Janome fan since I had my Kenmore for about 30 years and it was actually made by Janome with Kenmore stamp on it. I actually still have it and will repair it eventually, but the lure of this bright white machine with its legendary quality was too much to resist. The pair of machines are both STELLAR. Lovely quality and next to the HD 3000, truly a fine pair :)Also fantastic customer service - quick replies to questions. Couldn't be happier with this purchase .

I love this machine. It’s easy to use, saves me hours making garments, simple to thread once you’ve done it and the best thing I’ve bought in years

Have wanted a serger/overlocker since I began sewing again last year but to be honest was a little nervous as I have never even looked at one before in any great detail. However, after getting fed up with material fraying & my overcasting foot not quite giving the desired effect I wanted I decided to take the plunge. In doing so I wondered whether my occasional sewing would justify spending a hundred pounds or more, but came to the conclusion that if I ended up not getting along with it someone would buy it from me?I did some independent research looking at various companies, even Lidl! to get an idea of the best beginners machine to buy within my budget. Out of several brand names including Singer the reviews for the Janome 8002D came out tops, it wasn't the cheapest but I think was considered the simplest. It is early days yet as I have only had my machine for a short spell but already getting to grips with overlocking and found it so easy on the first attempt!!! As others have said the machine comes already threaded which is great as this gets you acquainted with it before you try to thread it yourself. There will come a time when the machine thread breaks and you do have to thread the four threads not just the thread which has broken. I found a couple of useful videos on YouTube which shows you how to do this which helped me understand it better than the manual & DVD, although these are well put together and easy to read.Once unpacked, I started with some scrap material first and then moved on to using it on my project. I like the way it cuts the fabric as it sews giving a sharp finish to seams and if my sewing machine breaks down I can use the Janome to complete a straight seam. It makes a nice finish to your garments it really does, it's also great for finishing T. Shirts. From a storage point of view the spool holders collapse and the machine is then small enough to fit away in a cupboard when not in use. It is quite sturdy and comes with suckers for feet. It has a weighty feel about it but reasonably light enough to carry a short distance from car to class if needed. Disappointing though that it doesn't come with a dust cover which would have been useful, I have bought a sewing machine bag to keep it in.I have thoroughly enjoyed using mine so far and wondered why I was so nervous about buying one! So if you are undecided give it ago you won't look back I promise you, if I can do it so can you!

This is a good machine, but not great. Ultimately, I returned it. I'll break it down for you:The Pros: It comes pre-threaded with spools of white thread included (nice!), a blind-stitch foot, extra needles, plus the tools you'll need (tweezers, large and small screw drivers, foot pedal, and instructions). Because it comes threaded, you can pretty much start stitching right out of the box, especially if you're experienced with sergers. It's relatively quiet, small and compact (great if you're strapped for space), and fairly light-weight with a notch in the back that acts as a handle for carrying. It also has a decent motor and stitches up nicely. The Cons: Although I kept the tension fairly low, at "3", it goes up to 9 or 10, my threads kept breaking, causing me to re-thread the machine often. That was a real bummer, not to mention a time kill. I didn't find it difficult to thread, but I do have many years of experience with sergers, but as soon as one thread broke, another one followed. Every time I took it out to sew, I would spend time having to re-thread it. It was terribly frustrating. I really wanted to like this machine, but I ultimately returned it.

Been using this guy for a couple months now and I love it. It comes in a large box with 4 small cone white thread already threaded into the machine which makes the set up so much easier. The thread runs out after a few uses but it'll last you until you get your replacement set of cone threads. Read the instructions and test run your machine with scrap fabric until you're happy with how it serge. It's a bit tricky to thread it when you want to change the thread color but it not anything someone can figure out by sitting in front of it and reading the diagrams for a bit (the inside has a threading diagram as well which helps alot). So, threading it takes some patience and practice but once you get it, you'll feel good that you figured it out. Totally worth the money and its a handy little machine.

Let me start by saying I have been sewing for over 50 years. I got out of the habit while I was working, but returned after retirement, with failing eyesight. This is my second serger. The first, the Husqvarna Huskylock S21, was a big mistake. Although it had many great features that convinced me to buy it, it cost way too much ($950!), was difficult to thread, had tension problems, and sat collecting dust for two years before I finally parted with it, at a tremendous loss. I thought my days of serging were over, but after a year or so, I wanted one again. I decided to go with a much cheaper machine with fewer features, hoping that it would be easier to thread and use. This Janome is a winner. I studied the reviews, and found it was even recommended for children and people with arthritic hands. This machine came threaded and ready to sew right out of the box. My first piece of fabric made a perfect seam. The instructional DVD is useful for explaining in great detail how to use each feature. (By comparison, let me just say the DVD that came with my expensive Huskylock was worthless. It only ran on a computer, and gave no advice on how to use the individual features, only how to thread it.) I hope this little serger lasts a long time, but only time will tell. If I get lucky and don't break any thread anytime soon, I can avoid having to thread it for awhile (using the pull-through threading method), but even so, it looks really easy compared to the Huskylock. I will update as time passes.
