I am not an accomplished machinist or motorhead but decided to overhaul my boat engine this winter. I needed this tool to determine if I could simply hone the cylinder walls or needed to have it the engine professionally bored at a machine shop. The gauge was fairly easy to put together using the 2" extender, and one of the supplied anvils and spacer washers. Was able to set the gauge up zeroed out at 4.2500 and repeatedly checked it during the measuring process (about 6 measurements per cylinder) and it did not appear to move from its calibration. I cannot say how long this instrument will last or if it will easily break or wear out, but for my first use it was spot on and a fantastic Value.Be very careful to inventory all the parts provided. not necessarily all slots in the case are filled. there was a tiny ziplock bag containing the shim washers.

The gauge I receive seems to be accurate when compared to plastigauge . The fact is it was right on the money .The gauge also scratches bearings enough you can feel the scratch with your finger . Keep in mind you can check the bearing bore without the bearing in it and then use a micrometer to measure the bearing and then do the math .

Used to check bearing clearances on a motor build, was using plastigage prior to purchasing this tool. Quickly found out how innacurate the plastigage was once I began using the dial bore gauge. This will be my go to for checking and verifying clearances on my builds from now on.

Out of the box, the adapter for larger bore sizes would not accept the collar for locking down the bore rods. The adapter's external threads were kinda half finished and required light filing to fit. Other than that detail, the tool functions with good repeatability and that's what I'm after.

This seems to be a pretty solid value for an occasional use bore gauge. I’ve got other iGaging products and they all do alright for what they are. I checked this against my mics and used to final hone a Cummins 6BT block.. worked well and easily found any taper/out of round within my cylinders. Seemed accurate and more importantly, consistent. I would’ve loved to have a Mitutoyo instead but couldn’t justify the cost for such infrequent use. This did the trick for a very economical cost.

I recieved this bore gage today and have taken several measurements. It was packaged well and works great. The dial is easy to read and the graduations are far enough apart that you can accurately judge better accuracy than. 0005". This is a well made quality product. To the folks writing reviews about tools needed to set up, if you dont know how to use a bore gage either watch youtube or dont buy this product. Dont give bad reviews because you dont know how to use something.

i had a 402 Chevy engine bored .030 over, and used this to hone it out for piston fitting myself instead of paying the machine shop another $100. It works great, I got .002" piston clearance (recommended for stock cast pistons) and even though it felt snug dry fitting, with assembly lube the pistons slid in feeling perfect. Note to unaware buyers, this does not tell you how big the bore is. You need some kind of caliper to measure the pistons, and you zero this tool on that measurement, so you can see how many .001 you are off of that dimension. I just used a cheap HF locking digital dial caliper locked to the diameter of the skirts, what it actually reads is irrelevant, you just need the dimension to zero this tool on it.
