The manual does not give emissivity value for human skin. I looked it up elsewhere and it gave me a setting of 96-98. I set it accordingly and got pretty close to a mercury thermometer. Is this instrument recommended for reading body temperature? Thks

This is a great product. I was almost tempted to purchase one of the cheaper generic options out there but I do not regret spending the extra money to get a proper laser thermometer. Just remember this is just for surface temperatures and not for taking temperatures of humans

I am a fan of Fluke so went with a quality product rather than a lower price option. Works as advertised, is well built and solid. Wish it came with a case or pouch for the price, but I’ll make due.

Works well, I chose this one because it has 1.5C accuracy, the backlit screen is nice, controls are good, and build is also great, comes factory calibrated. Only thing I wish it had was that it shows min/max/avg temperature in whole numbers, I wish it showed one decimal point too as it's difficult to keep track of that while comparing different objects.

I originally bought this to measure the chimney temperature on my wood burning stove. It's now in use measuring the differential in temperature between plants in my garden and the temperature of the surrounding soil. Some plants use more water than others, and register cooler leaf temperatures. I can tell if my plants are drought-stressed. The tepary beans are a bean from the southwest meant for a hot, low-water environment and uptake of water is slowest there, so the temperature of the plant is closer to the temperature of the soil. Curiouser and curiouser. This winter the IR thermometer will come in and tell me if my wood burning stove is running hot or cold.

Very nice instrument. I like the fact that it takes a AA battery instead of the usual 9 volt version. However I don't like the fact that it takes a screwdriver to open the door to change the battery. Because I use this instrument seldom, I don't leave the battery inserted. This is my only complaint. Please seek other reviewers for the meter specifics. I only use this meter for home use. 10/1 spot ratio. There are better meters out there but at this price point and for most homeowners, its great. I have to give it 5 stars. Made in China. I recommend!

I bought this to check the temperature of a variety of things from boilers, radiators, A/C vents, compressors to cooking/food/refrigeration to detecting heat loss around windows and doors and it worked great on any surface I could find. Even the dog and kid got measured. The only negative is that the emissivity table is not actually built into the unit as the manual states. You can adjust it to suit based on the material you are measuring but there aren't any presets built in so if you really want super accurate measurements I guess you have to keep the table off of a page in the manual handy. I called customer support and they verified that it is apparently an error in the docs. However, I did notice that even though I had the default settings (0.95 I think), the degree of error was relatively small.

Excellent thermometer. The temperature reading adjusts quickly and accurately, just as soon as the meter is aimed at a different surface/material. It also has a red laser light to help aim the meter more effectively and a screen backlight; which is handy in low-light situations. However, these settings were turned off by default. My only complaint is the spartan manual, that is purely pictorial and difficult to understand. However, the meter is still quite intuitive to use and I am sure more info can be found on the web on how to use all of its features correctly.
