I got this for my kids as a housewarming gift for their first home. The home is two-story with a walk-out basement, so it is technically three stories at the back. Accordingly, a fire ladder is a must and this one has a three-story option. I'm told they practiced setting it up and climbing down and were able to do so efficiently which is all that's required. These types of ladders do sway and wobble a bit given their nature, so additional equipment is necessary for young kids or pets (escape bag) who are unable to climb securely. With that said, I specifically got this ladder because it's reusable. In reading reviews for various fire escape ladders, it appears many are one use only. How can that even be possible??! In order to properly prepare for an emergency, one has to open and inspect the equipment for soundness and to ensure it properly affixes to your specific windowsill. And the family needs to practice, practice, practice to ensure they can quickly evacuate if the time ever comes. So get this one. It's reusable and fit for purpose.

We like the fact we can choose how we secure the ladder using the caribiners (balcony rail use) or brackets (windowframe use). We are able to leave the caribiners on if the bracket method for some reason doesn't work during an emergency.

The arms designed to go over window sill are very questionable - they do not grasp the sill & can slide off very easy with weight & movement down the ladder.

I would give this product five stars if I had actually received the product pictured. It seems sturdy and well-made, although I hope I never have to use it. They seem to have changed the product to have the posts on every step to keep it away from the building. If you buy the re-packaged ones from Amazon, you get the old ones that only have the bars every third step. I'm not happy about this, but I really can't afford more and was worried about living in my crappy third floor apartment without SOMETHING. So I'm keeping it, but I am not happy.By the way, the big hooks don't fit into the bag they send you to keep the product in. And I did manage to get them in if you put them in on a diagonal, but then all the steps won't fit all the way down in the bag. So you have something sticking out of the top no matter what. I want the hooks to say stay assembled to the ladder, because I am not sure in the panic of a fire or in 10 or 15 years or whenever I might use it that I would remember which direction to put the hooks on. I am therefore disappointed that I can't put the hooks in the bag assembled to the ladder. They slide into a little loop and there's nothing to keep them in place. It does seem strong.

If you've compared the Kidde Fire Escape Ladder and this ISOP ladder and don't know what to get, get this ISOP ladder. I purchased both in February 2023 for reference - the Kidde from Home Depot and the ISOP from Amazon. The ladders I purchased were all for 3-story, but I'm sure would also apply to 2-story. The pictures are of both Kidde (the red and silver) and ISOP (black and white).I had read reviews of both and decided to purchase both and return one, and the ISOP ladder is by far the ladder I would want to trust my life to.STEPSKidde - has fairly flimsy feeling steps that feel like they would be hard on the hands if you had to climb down. They have pointy edges that could easily catch things, and feel cheap. Each step did have wall supports. These steps did anything but inspire confidence. I would be hesitant to trust these.ISOP - The steps feel sturdy and safe. Each step has wall supports (I had read reviews that every third step has them, but my steps all have them), and is made of a hollow metal tube colored yellow. I would happily trust these steps with my life. They don't have pointy corners and are not likely to get caught on anything.WEBBINGKidde - This webbing feels more flimsy. I'm sure it's strong, but if a few people needed to be on the ladder, I would be very nervous.ISOP - This webbing feels more solid. It's thicker than the Kidde webbing.STURDINESS WHEN CLIMBING DOWNKidde - I chose to return this ladder and never tried it. It's designed to be single use, but it looks like if you really wanted to, you could try it and then pack it up again, but you might get frustrated in the process and it won't look pretty. You could also try this and then stack the steps and wrap something else around it. The anchor points (the bar things) did not look solid or like they would work for windowsills that are narrow. I would be very nervous using these, even if Kidde says they work for most windows.ISOP - If you have a fear of heights or aren't used to being on insecure feeling things, you might be unnerved by any ladder made of webbing, this one included. It's secure against a solid wall, but it still rocks since the webbing isn't rigid. This is not a problem unique to this ladder, but is what you will have to deal with when using any rope or wedding ladder. This is definitely the most solid webbing ladder I could ask for. If you're nervous about something like this, consider the ladders with a little harness and cord you can clip into. If you're a climber or someone comfortable using things like ropes or ladders, you'll probably feel fine on this. (I climb, and it felt secure.) I would feel comfortable with multiple people using this ladder.STORAGE CONTAINERKidde - had nothing expect the cardboard box it came in. I didn't like that.ISOP - came with a black bag (pictured) which can easily fit the entire ladder in it. The bag's material is cheap - something sharp could easily rip it, and it's that type of material where if a single string of thread comes loose, the whole bag will fall apart. I was disappointed in this since the ladder was so expensive, but I'd rather the ladder be nice and the bag be cheap.CONCLUSION - Go ISOPKidde - trash. Don't buy it. I would not feel safe using it since it felt cheap and flimsy, especially next to the ISOP.ISOP - I immediately bought two more for each bedroom in our place. This ladder is solid. It's not too heavy so a kid could easily toss it out, yet it's very sturdy and confidence inspiring. If we had to leave in a hurry, I will happily trust this ladder with my life and those of my loved ones. Plus you can practice with this one, which I think is important. This ladder is worth every penny and gives me the peace of mind we can escape safely if needed.

I like that it has supports braces to keep from swinging around. . My kid & one of his friend got a apartment… On the 3rd Floor. So being the overly worried mom. I got him this. 😊. His roommate was excited about it.

Thankfully I haven't had to use it but it looks sturdy and well made. One nit is the hooks don't fit in the bag provided. Wonder is they sent the wrong sized bag?
