  • ACID-FREE, BRIGHT WHITE - Each field journal features responsibly manufactured 60 lb (90 GSM) Finch Opaque body paper, which is a pleasure to write on, as it's smoother and more substantial than the typical notepad or composition notebooks. The acid-free pages maintain a bright white color to preserve sketches, observation logs, or to-do lists.

The cover is made from 80 lb kraft cardstock from French Paper Co. in Michigan and handles rough treatment without tearing or curling. It’s bound together by saddle stitch and three staples that support a flat lay to make quick entries easy and efficient.
  • PROUDLY PRINTED & MANUFACTURED IN THE USA - We take great pride in our complete and transparent origin stories. Each of our thin notebooks and journals is bestowed with evidence of our artisan-first processes, like locally printed pages from suppliers in the midwest and precisely rounded corners stamped by a machine noted inside the back cover.

Field Notes Original Kraft Memo Book 3-Packs

field notes original kraft packs graph ruled lined plain left-handed

Graph, Ruled, Plain, Mixed, and Left-Handed Packs

To make a long story short. When Aaron Draplin made the very first Field Notes by hand, as a holiday gift for friends, they looked pretty much like these notebooks. When we started the company we had only one product, a 3-Pack of Kraft Memo Books with graph paper inside. This is the heart of our product line.

PAPER STYLES

Our original 48-page memo books are available in three variations – Graph, Ruled, or Plain paper – or as a Mixed 3-pack that includes one of each paper type. Each Original Kraft memo book measures 3-1/2" wide by 5-1/2" tall and is bound by a rugged three-staple saddle-stitch process.

LEFT-HANDED

We also have a Left-Handed 3-Pack available with Ruled paper inside. With ten percent of the world’s population left-handed, we figured it was about time to make a notebook just for them. It’s identical to our Original Kraft Ruled Memo Book in every way except for this: We reversed the direction, and put the staples on the other side. Got a southpaw in your life? Get ’em a 3-Pack of our new Left-Handed Ruled Memo Books.

AMERICAN MADE

Don’t settle for imitations, all Field Notes paper products, papers, and inks are Made in the USA.

Field note journals are a must for anyone on the go that likes a tactile "list" over constant electronic note keeping. I love that there is a left-handed version that is lightweight but good quality. Great for journalists!

"As a lefty, finding a notebook that doesn’t make me feel like I’m smudging my way through life has been a struggle — until I found the Field Notes Left-Handed Kraft 3-Pack! These bad boys are a game-changer. The binding is flipped, so no more awkward hand cramping or running into the spiral like it's trying to sabotage my notes. The paper is smooth, and it holds ink well, without smudging all over the place like it’s trying to ruin my day. And the size? Perfect for slipping into a pocket or bag, making it great for jotting down genius ideas (or grocery lists). If you’re a lefty who’s tired of living in a right-handed world, this notebook is your new best friend. Compact, stylish, and finally made for us! 10/10, will keep these by my side like the loyal companions they are."

I used to carry little notebooks all the time, and started again a couple of years ago when I heard about Field Notes. I’m terrible about putting notes in my phone. Just never took to it. But I keep to-do lists, shopping lists, and project plans in these little books. I need a bigger one for more detail, but for lists and reminders, these are awesome to me.

Now I know what was wrong all these years... I used napkins, sheets of paper I wrote notes on but lost -- I didn't have my hand dandy small Field Notebooks. Fits in a pocket, car, anywhere and now most all my notes are fairly well organized. Just put a date on front so you know which one to research/look through. These are perfect. By the way I have switched up to slightly larger size for desk work but these little guys are so useful.

A good notebook is important to me. As a writer and business owner, I need to take notes frequently and for a number of reasons. And, of course, I like to use a notebook for simple everyday things like lists. I've used digital apps for notes but somehow I prefer analog - plain ol' paper and pen or pencil.Comparing this to Moleskine, I soon noticed a number of differences. Now, I use a fountain pen a lot. The Moleskine is superior for writing with a fountain pen. The Moleskine paper is a bit more thick and has a deeper ivory or yellow tone that's easy on the eyes and more pleasing in my opinion. The Field notes are a plain white. The paper is superior to dime store pads, of course. But not the quality of Moleskine. At least not in my opinion.Field Notes do not have many pages. But, that's one reason I bought them. I wanted a slim notebook that was lightweight and not bulky.Of course, The Field Notes are just stapled and not the quality product of Moleskine. There's no getting around that fact. But, I find the Moleskine pad too bulky to carry around in my small bag and to deal with when I'm out. So, I take the Field Notes book and it works fine. I use a pencil or my Tornado pen with it and it's suitable. It's more of a notebook for informal items and items of lesser importance to me. Not client notes or story ideas, article ideas or ads. For that, I turn to Moleskine. So, I guess it depends on what you want to use the notebook for and how you plan on using it. It depends on what writing instrument you use and whether or not you intend to file the notebooks. I don't see myself filing the Field's notes but I do keep my Moleskine notebooks from year to year. As a minimalist, that may not be a great idea but I like to refer back to them from time to time for a number of reasons. Perhaps a note I made on a client or a note I made about something at a certain time.Of course, these are things one can get an app for. So, you may prefer to keep your records that way. I do keep many digital records. But, as I say, I prefer to write with a pen when I really want to get my thoughts down. For example, I often create the first draft of a radio commercial in one of my notebooks using a pen. Then I go to the computer and finish it.So, I recommend Field's Notes as a basic, easy-to-carry simple note pad. But, if you really want a keeper of your thoughts and ideas and a pleasing writing experience that's easy on the eyes, go with Moleskine. For the record, both notebooks will bleed through. Perhaps with pencil they're not so bad but using any ink instrument, including ball point, you'll find bleed through. Just something you may have to live with.
