Never fails to work, once temps drop beyond a certain temperature, not before. The colder it gets, the more the heat engages (without melting the pipe). Perfect for my hbot building eater supply great product.

These got the job done for a location in Southeast Texas. Got down to 14° and still had flowing water so no issues as yet.

I originally thought this thing would get hot. Hot enough to melt plastic, but it doesn't. It really is just a warm wire.I wrapped it around my sewer hose during winter and it kept everything warm. It doesn't get hot. You literally can hold it and not really tell its hot. It's very similar to the idea of wrapping Christmas lights, except, it isn't just warm light bulbs, the whole wire is warm.I highly suggest this if you need to keep pipes warm.

It self regulates, it does not. Ok for pvc. Do not use on pvc. Indoor or out. Do not use indoors ( note pup on his bed with heater underneath). It caught fire ! - see the other guys pics. You get the idea, like most other off shore products hard to get exact details. After reading thru many bought 3 different brands thinking I would just test them myself. This one works, or at least it gets warm. Let's see, it does not self regulate that is the temperature does not decrement or increment based on pipe temp. Below the thermoswitch ( the plastic coated bump) fixed temp point it goes on and it heats to a fixed temp. Above that point it turns off. Did not catch fire, but I did not overheat it, kink it, overlap it, compress it or otherwise stress it. You can use with pvc pipe IF it will always be filled with H20 and you first wrap it with aluminum foil. If you spiral it under your dog's bed it might put out sufficient heat to get thru pillow/blanket but you will have to chill the thermoswitch down below 50 and keep it there. My dog sniffed it, walked away and crawled into my bed. I would love to tell you about the other 2, but they do not work. Build quality is: provably good for a season - sealed with dual wall heat shrink tube, the type with hot melt adhesive lining.

I live in East Texas where we don’t get a lot of prolonged cold weather and I have 2 outdoor faucets that are below the surface so I can’t just let them drip or trickle. I realize that these are supposed to be taped to a pipe but I loosely wrap them around the faucet and put an old towel in the hole and then cover it with a small galvanized bucket and place a brick on it and it seems to work. It may just be that I have them insulated well enough with the towel that it protects them from freezing but I’m gonna say that these certainly don’t hurt anything. I bought two of them last year and they seemed to work but couldn’t remember where I had put them so I bought two more this year. Maybe I’ll find them this summer but I’ll definitely put these up so I’ll know where they are next winter.

This thing doesn't even barely get warm let alone stay at a temp that will stop a pipe from freezing. I have a area around my hot water heater that gets cold in super cold weather like we are having in MI the last couple days so I got one of these for the pipes on the heater. It didn't get warm enough to stop the freeze so this morning I am trying to unthaw the hot water pipe. Same as last year. Waste of time and money. 0/10 wouldn't buy again.
