BewareYou get what you pay for. The self feed tip is absolutely garbage. The extra bit and the screw bit that came in the drill bit would not screw into any sort of material. I was able to make my own screw tip from a old bolt. I cut my own thread and gave the screw tip a more gradual tapper. After this, the drill bit isn't to bad. I would absolutely recommend buying a a reputable bit such as Milwaukee as this is almost useless out of the package.

I do not know what went on with the bit I recieved because the other reviews were OK, I had to work to get through a single pine stud. The pull bit in the center burnt immediately and I was drilling slow. Oh well I returned it and purchased a set of Milwaukee big hog carbide hole saws which actually work well.

The bit is sharp and makes clean cuts. My only complaint is that it doesn’t eject the chips very well but that is inherent because of the size of the bit not because of any design. I’ve used this on dozens of projects and it’s still very sharp.

This is clearly a step above the others. It is very well made, very sharp, comes with an extra feeder drill and is sharp as can me. It is on the thick side, but that is not a problem and this will last me the rest of my life. This is a couple of dollars more for sure, but so worth the money. I am thrilled with this. How I use the Amazon star rating:1 STAR - Pretty much trash and I will return and ask for a refund when I can.2 STAR - It's fine, but just fine and the most basic requirements and I will keep it and not return it, but order again, NOPE.3 STAR - It does what it was designed to do and is as described, but there's nothing really special about it. It's good but not great.4 STAR - I am very comfortable recommending it to a friend because it is is well made, durable, and delivers on its advertised features, and I would buy it again.5 STAR - I really love it. The item exceeds my expectations of quality, durability and functionality. Not only would I purchase it again, but I would also actively encourage friends and family to do the same. All of my reviews are my own personal opinion and are completely honest no matter if I receive an item for free or I pay for it. I am an avid Amazon shopper, as well as an Amazon Vine Voice and I personally rely on reading reviews to make all of my buying decisions, so I understand the importance of honest reviews from my peers.

This drill bit really eats its way through whatever wood product you throw at it, but brace yourself and be careful, because if you're using a drill with enough power to run this bit, it could break your wrists if-and-when the bit grabs and the drill decides to spin. The first photo shows the entry side of each test hole that I made in OSB, plywood, and dimensional lumber. The second photo shows the exit side. Since it's a Forstner-style bit, it makes a pretty clean cut on the way in, but because this is a self-feeding bit, you really don't get to decide how aggressively to dig into the wood... it pulls itself into the wood as it spins... so the exit is pretty rough because it blasts its way out the other side. If you need your hole to be clean on both sides, then I would start from one side and then finish from the other, using the pilot bit to line up the holes. You might be able to see in the photos, I was able to drill at about a 22 degree angle through the dimensional lumber without any problem using the 2-1/4" bit. Your maximum angle will be somewhat affected by the diameter of the bit you're using because you need to get the pilot started into the wood before you let the outer diameter touch the surface. When I was cutting through the OSB, I found I had to keep stopping and removing a wood chip from the main cutting edge, but this was due more to the material than to the bit. This bit will not fit into a 3/8" drill, but I've never seen a 3/8" drill with enough power to operate this bit anyway. You'll need a 1/2" drill, and I would recommend having a second handle on your drill for support.I like that this bit includes a second pilot bit for when the first one eventually gets dull. One last thing to mention... the Crescent brand name is associated with high-quality US-made tools, and this tool is designed in the US, but it is actually manufactured in China. The quality is terrific... I only mention that it's made in China because you might otherwise assume that it's made in USA.Overall, it's a great bit and it cuts FAST. Five stars, Crescent.

If you have a powerful enough drill, this bit will bore through a joist in seconds. BUT, make sure you keep both hands on the drill (dual handle) and proceed with caution or you could end up with a wrist injury, especially on the larger bits. The screw is very aggressive and takes a heck of a bite out of the wood. These are no toys and are obviously made for fast, rough cutting. There is an extra screw included, (with a wrench) but I wish they had a finer screw so it would not take such a big bite at once. I used a 2 inch bit and had trouble holding onto the drill. I can't imagine what the larger bits are like. Note that the listing says there is a 10 1/4 inch bit - this is obviously a misprint and if you look at the photo it is really a 1 1/4 inch bit.
