Whether you are competing at an autocross or driving on a Sunday afternoon your MINI is at risk. Because around every corner, in the very depths of every pothole, and the pinnacle of every bump G forces lie in wait. The occasional G may seem harmless by itself, but at times there may be several lurking in one rut and once they have done their damage to the sheet metal atop your tightly sprung strut towers, it will be difficult to resume normal activity.
MUSHROOMING
Fractions of an inch of tower deformation can be extremely detrimental to your MINI's alignment. This has been a common issue that MINI owners have had to face. It is a compromise in the design of the vehicle. The stiff springs allow for the griptastic handling that we love on the twisties, but are the main reason that our MINI's have a unique disposition for sheet metal deformation.
STDS (STRUT TOWER DEFENDERS)
CravenSpeed STDs are a preventative measure. Instead of suffering the consequences of a lack of protection, using STD's to your advantage will strengthen your MINI's strut towers before deformation can occur. By sandwiching the sheet metal between the strut and our 1/2 inch thick aircraft aluminum plate, it is strengthened ten-fold. STDs come in pairs, one for the right tower and one for the left. CravenSpeed STDs retain a 1/2 inch thickness throughout ensuring that there are no weak spots. Installation is easy, using the included instructions, it will take about 10 minutes to ensure that you do not have to go through a lengthy and expensive alignment repair. You do not need to lift the car, and the only tool needed is a torque wrench.

Easy to install. Had some crowning before adding reinforcements.Raised one side of my MINI at a time. Pounded the crowning out with 2x6 and mini sledge.Reinforcements fit tight to the metal surfaces. Happy with the product.Bad roads in Tennessee due to the deep freeze during the winter.

Instructions are excellent; quality of product is also excellent. I did not have a torque wrench so picked one up at Napa for $20 that worked great. I don't often use a torque wrench, but many forums stressed it is important to torque the bolts to 25 pounds so the strut defenders work properly and the threads don't get damaged from being over or under torqued. I like Cravenspeed service and quality and will buy more items from them.

These bracket are absolutely amazing and I love them they fit perfectly and are going to protect these shock towers for years to come. The hardware however that's another story. The metal is too soft and just installing them it started to Mar up after putting Any torque on the stud extensions so I hope the manufacturer will correct this manufacturing defect.

I really needed these due to some major mushrooming occurring to my R53. I had to do some major leveling with a 10 pound hammer to ensure optimal use and proper fit.They work like a charm and a necessity for Gen 1 minis.Now... to fix the oil leak. 😅

my strut towers were already mushroomed quite a bit, and the JCW suspension is very stiff compared to other minis, so I needed something after straightening the strut towers to reinforce them. this was an easy install without removing the struts from under the tower. can actually feel a difference in tight turns now

My towers were mushroomed to the slightest, I slipped these on (that came as described) and bolted down finger tight. Put a block of wood on top and pounded the surface flat. After each pounding I tightened the nuts slightly until they were a perfect fit! Now if they hold up as described, I will be a happy customer. Total install time was 15 minutes, keeping in mind my towers were in pretty dang good shape to begin with. Thanks for what appears to be a great product!
