I had to buy these for a class and I haven't used them yet so I can't rate their quality. A lot of reviews were complaining how small they are and I still wasn't prepared for how tiny they actually are. So I took pictures for this review. At least mine didn't arrive broken like some other people have said.

I’ve been seeing a lot of the reviews before I bought this product saying how upset they were that the conte crayons came in broken, that does not mean they are useless! In conte it’s a practice to break the conte crayons into smaller pieces to have better precision with whatever you are drawing so technically the shipping saved them a step in the conte process. Other than that, the product I got came intact and it is a good quality and easy to use

Perfect for a basic drawing class when learning how to use various charcoal or crayon sticks. Don't worry if a stick breaks when in use; actually better to use when small in your hand. Recommend.

I’ve never used this medium before and wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it. They’re very small, but don’t let that fool you. A slight mark becomes a formidable stroke. A spot becomes a hefty shadow. Not much needs to be done, because the quality is so good. The texture allows for an almost interactive experience. I felt almost like I was sculpting my work, rather than drawing. And I loved it. I bought the right paper to go with this and am glad I did. Make sure you do that.

I never used Conte before needed it for a drawing drawing class. The white wasn't helpful at all, it didn't work well for highlighting and it also didn't really lighten other tones. The brown has a rich tone feel to it, however I loved the brick toned one I adored. It came out a rich, deep orange shade which I used for a drawing of a snail and it was better than I anticipated. The black is exactly what you think you would get. The bad thing, when buying Conte look at the sizing this package came and it was the size of two old fashioned matchboxes together. I was a bit shocked about that, I did have plenty for my project, but if you use these a lot you will need the bigger package.

This is a good price for a great set of Conte crayons. This is a base color set, and I'd like to see the same type of well priced sets for greens, blues, etc. Very nice for the beginning artist to experiment with quality art materials.
