Idk but after a while of looking at these, you really want to look at something real in nature. So I go out in nature and look at what's there. However, this is a nice comparison tool, especially to know what something looks like that's hard to acquire. It's also good to use to test your microscope to see how well it does. I just don't look at the slides anymore. I'm not even sure where they'd be in my room. If you get bored easily, this isn't for you. If you're in biology class where you want to study what you learned for the day at home to give yourself more time over the material, then it's for you!

I've been an amateur microscopist for many years and I was pleasantly surprised to find that these slides were stained and mounted professionally. Every one of them was very well done. This set of slides was definitely worth the money--quite a bargain. Not only were the objects well stained and mounted, but the list of slides and the labels on the slides were perfectly cross referenced. The whole package, to include the wooden box in which the slides came, was perfect. For those who are not familiar with the abbreviations used on the list of slides and slide labels, I suggest that a brief note should be included on the list of slides, explaining that C.S. means cross section, L.S. means longitudinal section, and W.M. means whole mount.I wiped each slide with a micro fiber cloth, just to eliminate the bit of lint and dust that seem to plague every slide I have ever received from anywhere; whether they were blank slides or specimen mounts. This is quite normal for slides, and it only took a couple of seconds to wipe each slide before I viewed it.

Nice assortment of decent-quality slides, clearly labeled. The whole mount hydra and pine needle cross section are quite showy. For the price, it's a nice selection. The box is basic, but sturdy enough. I'd recommend this as a starter set for anyone. It can give you super ideas for things you might like to mount on a slide yourself. It gave me a nice variety of slides for a larger group learning beginning microscopy. See the "answered questions" section at Amazon or the Celestron web site for a list of slides included.

I have a school microscope with 4/10/40 and most of the slides were very clear with excellent staining and distinguishing characteristics could be seen.Other slides appear to be poorly stained or the item is too thin and there was little to no contrast. A few had such small items that I could not see distinguishing characteristics so clear on other slides. About 2/3 of the slides were very good and usable with my scope. I was unaware the covers are not permanently affixed to the slide but use some non-hardening sticky glue so the cover can move if pushed. I accidentally pressed a cover too hard with a lense and the cover broke oozing glue over the lense. The slides have rounded corners which is great for kids. The wooden slide box is well finished and holds the slides in place which are easy to remove.

This set of slides has a large variety, which is nice. They are mounted well and will last for a long time. They are not high quality samples though. They are great for beginning to learn how to become comfortable with a microscope and first level science courses. These may not be what you are looking for if you are in a college level course though. The slides I had from college pretty much guaranteed to have all of the stages of mitosis, for example. On the slides in this set, I found that not all stages were represented. When selling the number slides that they do at this reasonable price, you can not expect every slide to be previewed for that sort of thing though. My college slides were easily 3 times this price or more in some instances. If your goal is to learn how to use a microscope and you want a good variety of interesting slides to work with, this is a really good set. It would be really good for anyone who is homeschooling. Hours of exploring are available here.I believe that there is already a review that lists all of the slides that are in the set, so I won't go into that detail. The box is ok. It is sturdy enough. I am not sure how it would hold up to travel/being carried around a lot. It simply gets moved from shelf to desk in our house, so it does not see any rigorous wear and tear. It is fine for our purpose.Do yourself a favor and splurge on a better microscope rather than more expensive slides when just starting out. That is where you will find that most of your frustrations lie. These slides will be fine for most people's needs. Enjoy!

I ordered this set for a very motivated 6 year old who had received a microscope for Christmas and several beginner microscopy books since. All 25 slides were in the wood box intact and in good condition. They were in the box in the correct order and clearly labeled. An enclosed slip of paper listed the included specimens. Many of these (hydra, paramecium, daphnia, human red blood, etc. were immediately recognized by my granddaughter as being shown in her books. We spent over an hour discussing the three or four slides that we chose to investigate first, and we saved the others for another time (I had previously previewed them quickly). Her response was "cool!" and she was excited to check the others out. Reasonable price, well mounted, properly stained, glass slides with covers require user care and some caution in handling.Wood bos inside of thin bubble wrap sleeve, inside a reasonablly sturdy cardboard carton from Celestron, and then inside of Amazon's box. Initial concerns based on other reviews proved to be unwarranted in our case.Highly recommended! Some adult supervision for the younger "scientist" may be required.
