For anyone with an EOS R series camera, add the RF50mm F1.8 STM lens to that list. As a 50mm lens it’s already compact, but as part of the EOS R System, it’s even more compact due to its compatibility with an EOS R camera body, so there’s every reason to keep it attached or put in your bag so you can shoot – and get a great shot – anywhere and anytime. Size isn’t all though. As a fixed focal length lens, it lets you be creative with composition and can be used for a wide range of scenes, from snapshots to portraits to landscapes and more. Those images will stand out, too, just like you intend whether on social media or just sharing, thanks to impressive optical features like a PMo aspherical lens to suppress aberrations, coatings to reduce flaring and ghosting, and a large f/1.8 aperture for low-light shooting and circular bokeh. Pick it up and use it one time and you’ll see for yourself, and you won’t be able to leave the house without it.

Big things come in small packages. Very light weight. Very crisp clean fine detail. One stop shop for a RF Lens. Works great for any kind of photography you’re looking for.

At first, the camera didn't appear to be as bright or fast. That was because the stock 24-50mm f 4.5 isn't that great. I decided to get a 50mm f 1.8 and the camera operates just as fast as my prior cameras. I still think It's worth getting the kit if you still want a wireless shutter remote, tripod, monopod, and microphone. If you are going to be filming 4k beyond 24fps, you will have to get a UHS II card. It's so much nicer having a full frame sensor.

I am new to photography and wanted a lens that I didn’t have to worry about focus and zoom. This is a great lens for portrait pictures. I mostly use my camera for pictures of my kids/family.I will eventually upgrade to a zoom lens, but for now this is great. You just have to move closer and further to your subject to get the correct distance for your shot. It is also much cheaper than a zoom lens. Definitely enough to get a great photo!

This has out performed my expectations with ease, I find it odd how often I'm reaching for this thing, it serves so many purposes although not as clear as my other multi thousands of dollar lenses its absolutely fantastic for capturing any type of imagery even splicing landscapes and model portraits. The only complaint I may have is its focus isn't always as consistent and a little slower than the L lenses. I would find uses for this at weddings and even a single travel lens. if you have a 24-70 don't bother but its the definition of nifty fifty!

This is a great first lens for anyone getting into the Canon RF system. It really helps you take amazing photos and the focal length teaches you to see composition and shoot properly. This is the first lens everyone should own.It is light and quick to focus. It is tack sharp at all apertures and the control ring can be set to a variety of options. This is my favorite lens and I love it.

The Nifty Fifty is an incredible little lens that punches well above its price point. For portraits or isolating subjects, the sharpness and background blur it delivers are stunning. It’s lightweight, compact, and feels like the perfect travel companion for any photographer wanting something simple but powerful. That said, it’s not without its limitations. On an APS-C camera, the 50mm becomes more like a 75mm equivalent, so it feels quite "zoomed in." This makes it less practical for tight indoor spaces or wide shots when you're working in close quarters. If you’re in a small room and trying to fit a group of people or a wide scene into the frame, you’ll find yourself constantly backing up or hitting walls.Despite this, the Nifty Fifty is an essential tool if you understand what it’s built for. Its optical quality at this price is phenomenal, and it’s perfect for portraits, detail shots, or anything where compression and subject isolation shine. Just keep in mind the cropped field of view on APS-C sensors, and you’ll get a lot of joy out of this lens.

A lot of youtube reviewers chastise this lens as slow focus and not great quality, but they get things for free so don't trust them, they're always going to knock lower-cost gear. This lens works great. yes, the auto-focus can be a bit slow in low light, but it's $200 and unless you're some sort of pro sports photographer, it's not THAT slow. The end result is what matters, and it does lock on focus very well, and images/video is very sharp. That's all you need. I use it for studio interview videos on a tripod mostly, once it locks in the eye focus, it never loses it and the f/1.8 gives me a lot of variance in lighting. If you're on a budget, but have the Canon R line of cameras, don't be afraid of this lens. Give it a shot.

Canons EF 50mm was legendary, as it’s price and weight couldn’t be beat, and this update to that for the new RF mount system is no different.I love how light and compact this lens is, and on a full-frame sensor 50mm is a fun focal length to play around with. The only ricky thing with this lens has more to do with the new focus/control ring system the RF cameras now have the ability to do. The ring on the lens can be swapped between focus mode or control ring mode, where the former works as expected (as long as your settings are set correctly in camera) and the latter allows you to select many different options (iso, apurture, shutter speed, etc) to control by simply twisting the ring. A handy feature, but one to get used to as focusing for so many years had my brain and hands programmed for that focusing function.Excellent value for what you get, and it’s a fast enough lens still as well to photograph in near pitch-black situations with usable results. The RF system is incredible.
