The "7812" regulators shipped to me actually output about 11.7 volts when supplied with a 16 volt DC input. This result is within specifications according to the datasheet, which allows for a range between 11.5 and 12.5 volts when supplied with a 19-volt input.Pay attention to the wiring as described in the datasheet. I mismeasured this product at first, due to a wiring error on my part. The result was that I wrongly criticized the product. This revision withdraws the previous criticism with an apology to the seller, and corrects my review to report the product's satisfactory quality.

I didn’t have time to wait for a genuine part, so I went for this - obviously counterfeit- one. They work, as far as I can tell, but the output voltages are all over the place. I measured 12.2V-12.6V, depending on the unit. They seem fairly stable, though.Make sure you measure them before use and I wouldn’t put them into something worth a lot of money.

Seems to be a keeper. Fixed two switching power supplies so far and no issues. Thank you…

The voltage you are controlling should be 2.5 volt greater than the output voltage you want. I needed to regulate car voltage (which changes constantly), but when the input voltage is 13, the output is 11.v and it will fluctuate depending on input. This is how the IC 7812 works, I just didn't read closely enough. I ended up using a different item which produces a constant regulated output independent of the input. If that is what you need, search for "5A XL6019 Converter Adjustable Voltage Regulator ".
