The solar panel is just used to protect the battery from running out of power, rather than charge for the battery. If the item is connected as shown in the user-manual, the breakaway kit would be charged from car battery, or you can use an external battery to charge for it.

HOW TO CHARGE
Optional 1 - Charge Automatically
If connected according to our manual, the car battery will charge the controller battery.
Built-in solar panel can protect battery from running out of power, rather than charge for it.
Optional 2 - Charge by External Battery
You can also charge this trailer breakaway kit by connecting with an external 12V lithium battery.
Black wire connects to positive pole while white wire connects to negative pole.

Our trailers get sporadic use and the brake away batteries were perpetually dead since they sat for so long between uses. Dead brake away batteries are totally useless and potentially dangerous.This unit seems to have resolved that issue for us.Simple installation. Product looks like a quality itemI’m happy.

I used this to power my interior trailer lights. I have (2) 1 watt LED bulbs and my lights are always ready even when not connected to a vehicle

This device stopped working after a month. At first it seemed to work well, It kept the battery charged while not in use. Then, one day I checked and the battery was low. It had been in full sun all day. I reached out to the company for support, and someone asked for some details and said they would forward me to the US team. The US team told me to not worry about it. The car will charge it. Not the point and not why I bought this. There are dozens of regular trailer batteries that charge from the car for way less $. A few days later, none of the lights would light up at all...again after being in full sun the whole time. I reached out again, and have not heard anything back. This is a safety device. Do not trust it. The product is junk, and the customer service is non-existent. Let the buyer beware.

I wanted something that wasn’t so intrusive. This is perfect. Solar panel maintains battery charge when unplugged. I was able to flush mount it. I’m very pleased.

Installation instructions are not very clear. Wiring instructions are too small to make out clearly.
