We are beginner stargazers that wanted to expand our young daughter's capabilities with our home telescope. Since we don't have a lot of experience with these things, our review will reflect that. This kit wasn't what we would call inexpensive (for us), but it certainly looks impressive with its metal case! It has a number of very useful accessories like filters as well as the lenses look well made and feel good in the hand. The optics are clear and seem high quality. Our daughter says that the are good and she is thrilled which makes it worth it to me!

This is a great little 1.25" eyepiece set that is a bit better than the celestron starter sets. However If you already have a celestron eyepiece set I would skip this an move onto something much more useful. This set would be a great addition to the many off brand telescopes that are throughout amazon. The included eye pieces for most of those are sometimes not even glass and are cheap plastic optics. Having a real glass set would substantially improve your experience. Anyhow let me lay out some pros/cons of this set for you.Pros:-Much better set than into celestron eyepiece set or meade for that matter-Great addition for off brand scope that came with sub par eye pieces-Well made eyepieces & barlow.-Comes with a nice solid caseCons:-Really only useful for planetary viewing (not suited for anything else)-Not for serious astronomer (geared more for light casual use)-Optics are not the highest of qualityLike I said before this is a great option for anyone who owns a off brand telescope that are all over amazon. Most of those come with horrible eyepieces which effectively make the scope useless. This will breathe new life into those lower end scopes. However if you already own a meade or celestron starter set youre money would be better spent on individual eyepieces. Upgrade them as needed for what you wish to view and go with that. You will get a much more enjoyable viewing experience. With that being said I would also suggest any newcomers to the hobby to go with a branded scope that has a go-to function. Trying to manually find things in the night sky being an beginner is only setting yourself up for failure. So its worth the extra money to get a scope (even a much smaller one) that has the ability to track object and help you focus on them.

This a good beginner observing kit. The 7.5mm and 20mm plossls are good quality. I really like the 20mm. It is a very useful medium power eyepiece. The barlow is also pretty good quality. Using the eyepieces with the 2X barlow will give you four different focal lengths. In my opinion, all you would really need to add is a 32mm plossl to cover your observing needs. The filters that come with the set are also well made. You get three color filters and one 13% transmission moon filter. The eyepieces and filter are all threaded. All of this comes in a nice little case that has a key lock. I think the $102.99 price at the time of my writing this review is a little bit high. For that reason I took one star off, but it is a good accessory kit.

Compliments to Astromania for making this set available! The brand has a good reputation, and this set certainly shows why. The optics – 7.5mm and 20mm Plossl eyepieces – are good quality, free from edge distortion or chromatic aberration and are very bright. The 2x Barlow is equally as good. In contrast to problems that I’ve had with cheap filters, these are very good quality, especially at this price point. The filter glasses are flat to the edge and consistent across the filter surface, a welcome change! I appreciate the thoughtfulness that went into the design of the carrying case, as it is very strong and the foam blocks inside have been scored to allow for the addition of extra eyepieces or extra filters, so this basic set has plenty of room for an amateur Astronomer to expand their equipment storage! My single complaint, a minor one, is that the set I received had fogged optics throughout, and every single component had to be cleaned of lens fog before use. This involved some very careful and tedious work to put things back to rights, and I can see where this condition might dampen the excitement of someone enjoying stargazing right out of the box. Just something of which to be aware, should you choose to purchase this excellent set.

I first have to say I am not expert or advanced user in this area. In fact I got 2 starter telescopes this year (for 2 locations) but I have hardly had time to spend with them which I would love too. Seems late night if I had any time at all it was for bonfires with friends to relax which does not work well with telescopes and adult beverages. But what time I did spend was fun and interesting. So when I saw this kit I thought it can only make things better and add to my learning about all this more over time. What I can say is that it all seems to be of high quality and I did hear that Barlow is a good brand name and that these lenses in this kit are better than those with the starter telescopes which seems apparent from the contents. I know from my days heavily into photography, lenses, filters, all this is true, so I am looking forward to all this. I found the high quality case interesting because I used to play poker with a group of guys and we had some pretty high quality poker chips which this case looks pretty similar too. Just saying.

I love the wide field of view that you get from a plossl lens, and on their own they're usually a lot more expensive. Being that this set comes with multiple lenses and various filters as well, it's definitely a good deal. Comes with a nice case and makes it easy to tote around with my telescope. For a beginning astronomer like me (I've only had my own telescope for about a year) it's a great starter set and gives you a lot of different viewing options.
