For the price, these are pretty neat little arms. They are not for high precision machine work, but are great as robust "helping hands" for any soldering work, or small parts holding. Youtube has some suggestions to upgrade these arms using bearings, so you can move the arms while "locked down" and they WON'T back off the tightness while moving the arms. (they WILL loosen if you move the arms while it is "locked" if you use these as they come). If you also buy "uxcell F5-10M Thrust Ball Bearings 5mm x 10mm x 4mm Chrome Steel Single Direction 4pcs" amazon item B07QKKYKR8 , they fit perfectly if you remove the washer under the main knob, and replace it with one of these washers. I also removed a fat black washer from the 2nd section, with a much thinner washer, to allow more threading inside the knob since the bearings take up more space than the stock washer. The image on the gray blanket shows the upgraded arm using the bearings. Also, if you DO take the arm apart, make sure you CAREFULLY take parts off, because the inside mechanisms need to be oriented a SPECIFIC way, for them to go back together. Inside the elbows are angle faces of the inner bars, that need to mate correctly, for it to work. But overall, for $17 or whatever, these are great little holders for whatever purpose you need.

I love these fully adjustable, with one knob, magnetic base, dial indicator holding arms. I am using them as helping hands for soldering and holding in place what I need my hobby works. The on and off magnetic base with a lever works excellent in my application and of moving the entire arm anywhere on the metal work pad needed. In full disclosure I got this idea from a youtube fellow, thank you! I think I adapted the alligator clips a little easier with more adjustment and allowing for much larger and easier to use alligator clips with these holding arms. I had been using the old but workable and probably the original helping hands and the useless (for steady holding) magnetic gooseneck flex arms prior to this and did ok. Now though, I have total complete adjustment of anything I am holding or soldering as you can see in the pictures. First with regular silver alligator clips and later with the larger, red and black, easier with much better gripping jaw spring clips. Which by the way, spin 360° irrespective of the adjustable arms making this setup just easier to use. Loosening the center knob between the 2 articulating arms is what allows adjustment and tightening it locks the arm in place. Theres a rod and cam on each end of the arm that's tentioned or loosened with the center knob that adjust it from the magnetic base to the end swivel clamp, it's pretty neat. Of Note: It is a pain to reassemble the arm if, like in my case, (picture of sealed one) one had come apart in shipping and it took some time figuring out and then aligning the 2 in arm rods with the 4 cams that make it move and lock. They just have to all line up to operate. Also of note, I have read some reviews stating the magnetic base didn't work or wasn't strong enough for their applications, but in my use, on the metal plate in the pictures, these do not move once in place and switched to on. The arm will move before the base, just tighten the knob a little more if needed. If you do electronics/soldering, jewelry or any other hobby where you need small close in holding I would highly recommend giving these a try. Plus, nothing on the arm is modified, so you can still use them to hold your dial indicators.

Llegó a tiempo y en buen estado. Es más pequeño de lo que esperaba, pero esta bien para instalarlo en las zonas difíciles. Trabaja bastante bien

UPDATE:I flattened & squared up the magnetic surface and it made a huge difference and the magnetic base works pretty well now for it's size. The locking mechanism for the arms works very well and locks all the joints at the same time and when tightened properly the arms won't move. When the arms are loose you can easily adjust to any position needed, the modulation in the tightening mechanism is good. Once the magnetic base is cleaned and squared, the power of the magnetic base is increased dramatically and does not easily move, also works well on round surfaces like a drill press column. If you're able to flatten and square up the base then the price is good.Original Post;I just received the item (11/2015) and I will have to agree with what others have said in previous comments about it being small and that the mounting surfaces is not flat. The biggest problem/defect is that the machined magnetic surfaces are actually not machined or flat, far from it. This defeats the magnetic holding ability, because the surfaces are far from flat; it will pivot/rock/twist/move with surprisingly little effort. The front on/off label is already peeling off at the corners allowing you to see screws behind the label. The arms can hold pretty well but works best by tightening them when the magnet is turned on but even that makes the base move.I will try to mill the surfaces flat and see if that helps; I shouldn't have to do that but what do you expect for 14 bucks for something desperately trying to be a NOGA ?I would have been happy to return it but I already threw the packaging away. I would not recommend this magnetic holder if you intend to use it with a dial or needing it for accuracy but should be fine if using for a light or eye shield.....etc.Also, the mounting hole at the end of the arm is metric not imperial size. The hole size is 8mm as stated above in the description.I have included photo's to show scale with a 6" square but it's hard to show how bad the surfaces are, you'll just have to trust earlier comments left by other buyers.

The unit is smaller than I anticipated when placing placing the order. I measured and found the magnet base has a 1.25" x 2" foot print and the over all height with the arm extended vertically is about 8". That said it works pretty well. Reasonably rigid when tightened down and moves with little resistance when you need to position it. The magnet could could be a bit stronger and ground a bit smoother. For something less than $15 I am pretty happy with it.
