This works as an affordable Chemex replacement. It’s made of thin glass and prone to breakage. At least the Chemex filters fit well.

I've had a chrmex - until I accidentally smashed it and then cried bc I didn't want to pay the high price for another until I found this. Similarities: The borosilicate glass is the same, the wood collar & tying ball, leather string are the same. The shape & thickness are nearly identical Differences,; the spout on this is more square-ush but goes the length of the spout into the bottom chamber like the chrmex. You can feel the line where the 2 halves of glass were sealed but you can't discern this on a chrmex. The halfway glass nub on the chrmex is missing but theres silkscreened measurement marks on the side which are irrelevant since no one drinks a 5 ounce cup of coffee. This comes with a pretty nice metal filter, a brush & microfiber cloth chemex has none of these. Uses same expensive paper filters as chemex. So you see theres no major dif in form or function from a chemex and it makes the same great coffee AND it's $22 cheaper (almost half the price) of an 8 cup chemex so unless you're a rich purest snob get this one!

I love this thing. It's a nice larger size and it looks great. The included metal filter is worked very well for me, but I use it with large paper filters.

all good at first, I always clean the filter each and every time I use this product always, I dump the contents rinse brush inside and out re-rense and let it air dry on my rack, great tasting coffee but!!! after a few weeks go by I started to have issues with the filter slowly it was getting clogged so I spent more time and attention on the cleaning of the filter and now I am sad to report the filter now has became uselessly obstructed and very uncleanable no matter what I do I've boiled it for hours, I've soaked, soaked it in vinegar, boiled in in vinegar then more soaking, and the same using baking soda and brushed and brushed for hours its impossible to clean and use and I don't care what anyone says you have to use a filter with this damn thing, I have to find a new one. In the 90's I bought a Swiss made combo drip and espresso coffee maker unit at Costco for $99 that lasted 15 years. Ever since, It's been either Krups, Braun, or another German mark that breaks after 2-3 years. So when my last $250 German machine broke, I decided I have had enough. I've also just gotten over cancer, so I no longer want the hot water going over my coffee to be carried by plastic, flow over plastic, or brew coffee within plastic. This device is attractive and has me back to a college routine of starting the morning making pour-over coffee. Gee, I feel younger for it. And the coffee is better than what I was just making in the Vaterlandmaschine. While I'm doing the pour-over, I also empty the dishwasher between pours. A collateral benefit of this is that I detect my wife loves me an additional 7-8% more than just last month.I anticipated needing to buy expensive filters to go along with this carafe, because I have never seen a metal filter worth a scheisse. This one is fine, a great surprise that expensive filters are not needed. The only negative regards the spout and the angle it has, making for an inexact pour sometimes. Kind of a test of how much one is awake, a quirk to be loved in the future.VERY happy with this carafe.

Someone is going to have to explain to me exactly how a Chemex can be worth twice the price. Admittedly, a tiny piece of me still wants a Chemex for reasons borne of pure vanity, but this carafe and it's filter cone are both of great quality. A lot of imitations on the market are downright ugly in my opinion, but this one has the sleek, sexy hourglass shape. To be completely honest, I probably would have spent the extra money for Chemex if it weren't for that. Afterall, what more is this than a glass jar, of not an aesthetic table piece? It sets the mood. The filter cone has a very fine mesh screen on the inside. I've been known to grind a little too fine, and no grit comes through whatsoever. Also, coffee granules never get stuck in the filter. Not a single one. I simply dump and rinse when I'm done with it.I was concerned about the squared pour spout, but my fears were unfounded. It actually makes for a nice-and-easy pour, not too fast so you don't accidentally blast your wife's favorite robe with piping hot liquid in a morning stupor. I do have one small critique; the wooden collar feels... dry, if that makes sense. I think they just splashed it with such a thick heavy coat of polyurethane, that it makes it feel almost brittle like it's going to chip possibly. I'm afraid to wash it. Maybe it's just cheap wood or something, I dunno I can't really put my finger on it, but if it does fall apart, I'll just get like a nice looking piece of leather or something to wrap around it. I think customizing it that way could actually be a cool personal touch. Come to think of it, I might actually do that!

I really like the idea behind this but I just can't bear how long it takes to make a pot of coffee with this thing. Maybe I need a really course grind or something. I really like Kirkland Decaf but it only comes fine grind and it tough to use in my french press, and worse in this device. If you have the patience you may love this thing. Looks cool, beautiful filter and feels good in your hand tho. Mixed feelings for sure.Edit time:I purchased a Baratza Virtuoso+ Coffee Grinder and with a coarse grind, this unit is excellent. If you don't want a grinder like the on I mention above, I think just buying coarse grind coffee is the way to go. I use this every day now while my wife sticks with her french press.Ciao,

Product: 800mlLikes: Great shape and styling; the square channelled pouring spout extends a little below the bottled neck which makes for very smooth pouring; the metal filter is perfectly fitted with a #4 paper cone filter or using a #4 filter without the metal filter also works well.Dislikes: Mine is not as thick as advertised and the thickness appears inconsistent. The spout area is a little under 2mm and the sides appear to be approximately 2mm. When first handling, I found that it felt a little thin to the touch overall compared to other coffee carafes I’ve had, so I just plan to handle with care. Mine came with millilitre markings only (which I initially really liked); however, these markings do not appear to be accurate. Therefore, it was a bit of a guessing game at first of how much was a cup, 2 cups, etc.Overall happy with the purchase after owning a couple of days. Allows me to brew good smooth coffee with elegance.

Works well, solid product. The spout starts in the lower portion so the pour is excellent. The reusable filter is a great idea. Water can flow through it quickly but I found if you wet it before putting your grinds in, it tends to stick and reduces the flow rate. I've read others still using coffee filters but I think this does the trick.Really happy with the purchase.
