Low Pressure Cast Iron Butterfly Valve - Wafer Type
A butterfly valve operates in a quarter turn to control the system flow. The disc of butterfly valve acts as a door in the pipeline, it rotates around a central axis to open or close the flow of fluid or gas. Butterfly valves provide benefits like minimal pressure drop, yet, it faces challenge in throttling applications with low pressure differences and might be influenced by choked flow. There are two types of butterfly valve which is lug type and wafer type.
- Wafer type, quarter turn (90° rotation) valves.
- It is sandwiched between 2 pipe flanges and flange bolts surround the valve body.
- Made of cast iron
- Manufactured according to API 609
- Working pressure is 150 PSI
- Generally applied in chemical, pharmaceutical, F&B industries.

To install the butterfly valve, kindly refer to the steps below;
- Clean the pipe ends thoroughly to remove any debris, dirt, or contaminants that could affect the sealing of the valve.
- Place the valve between two pipe flanges, ensuring that the valve's mounting holes align with those on the flanges. The valve should fit snugly within the flange faces.
- Gradually tighten the bolts on both sides of the valve, alternating between bolts to ensure even pressure distribution.
