This *would be* a great little notebook if the cover was a different material that didn't absorb oils and fingerprints so much, if the binding actually kept the cover on (mine never left the lab and the cover came off within a week -- just sticky rubber cement-type stuff holding it on) AND the lack of a measurement page. Otherwise, it is perfect - great size, gridlines not too heavy, margins great, and I really hope they fix those two problems. I ordered the large hardcover, but it's too big, and the small field notebook, but it's too small and doesn't have the measurement conversions in it either. This little notebook with a hardcover and measurement conversion would be absolutely perfect. Til then, I'm better off with cheap composition notebooks!

These are really nice lab books and will fill the need. Unfortunately, the adhesive used for the cover no longer adhered. I have liquid adhesive specifically for repairing book bindings and that worked fine to re-attach the covers.

So far I am loving this lab notebook. I really like having a softcover and the grid lines and table of contents are great for keeping track of my microscopic work and sample preparation for trace element chemistry. The quality of the lab notebook is great! I will definitely buy a second notebook when this one is full!

I needed a notebook for my microbiology class and this book is perfect! Its pages are extremely sturdy and has plenty of pages. I also like that it already has designated user index and the cover is a really nice almost velvet texture. Stayed very clean and didn't wear really at all! Very happy with this notebook!

I like these for my notes but I wish that it actually payed flat without having to press down each page. I do enjoy having the table of contents at the front, it's a great reference.

[Update] Tombow brush pens don't bleed through the pages and have very little shadowing. Likewise for Pilot gel pens and Zebra mildliners. Also I throw this book in my backpack every day and it looks like it's going to hold up very well.[old reivew]Just got this notebook today. I love the size of it and the softness of the cover. Contrary to another review this notebook does lay flat. You have to crack the spine (open and press flat in a few places) in order for it to do so, but this is very common. I have a northbooks dot notebook as well, which I really like, but I prefer the stark white pages of this one.

Both of the Vela books that I purchased were great! I use these books for taking notes and doing some freehand sketching and they work perfectly for both. The paper quality is great for note taking or sketching and the lay-flat binding helps to make sure the book stays flat while writing. Price point was perfect for the quality of the notebook. Will definitely be buying these again!

Have had a few models from this company and have always been happy. I can't say I have ever had loyalty to notebooks but find that this company's quality keeps me coming back. The price to quality ratio is awesome and I will always prefer notebooks that inhibit ink bleeding.
