While the plastic lens is not as clear as a glass one, it is definitely safer for preschool and kindergarten age children. The glasses come individually wrapped and in six colors. The colors that I received are paler than in the description, but they still make it easy for a child to identify their magnifier. We had a lot of fun exploring our garden close up with the magnifiers. They might end up getting scratched with use, but the cost is low enough for them to be replaced if necessary.

These are fine for "playing scientist" but the magnifying glass (plastic) is a bit scratched and not very strong. It will work for the purpose that I ordered it for (young children looking at bugs) but don't expect a lot. They are cute and the kids liked them.
