I used this kit to test my pond that had signs of blue green algae. I had treated the pond but wanted to make sure it was safe for my dogs to swim.I would give it 5 stars, but the cost is prohibitive and the directions don’t say if you should test the water that has the slime on it or in a clear area.

Test worked. But chemical reaction was faster than I expected. Be sure to wear gloves and point test tube away from your face. Bubbling, splattering and smoking could touch your skin.

I ordered twice in July of this year (1+5 test kits). I only recently noticed that one of the kits expired in December 2023. It was beyond the return date so I am stuck. I don’t want to take a chance using an expired kit. This also happened to a friend although she realized it in time to return.

We misread the box and thought it contained 5 tests. There is only 1 at around $35. Algae blooms vary dramatically over the summer season and multiple testing would be required. Not really practical. We didn’t even use the test bc it was so expensive we kept “saving” it.

I take my dog, Sam, walking at the park regularly and he is a chocolate lab so he loves the water. One day the water in the pond looked a little odd to me so I didn’t let him go into the water that day and bought a blue green algae kit so that I could test the water. We went back later that week and tested the water. Within 15 minutes I was able to verify that the water had no blue green algae in it and it was safe for my dog to swim in the pond! I just wish I had more on hand at the time so my dog could’ve enjoyed swimming earlier that week!

During Hikes I've been concerned about the danger associated with Blue Green Algae blooms for my dogs. This test kit available from 5Strands turned out to be just what I needed. Very easy to use, relatively quick, and great to watch the dogs swimming with no worry for their health in the streams and lakes in our area. Highly recommend for anyone who likes to go hiking with their pets.

Our dog loves playing in our local pond especially during the hot Texas summers. I have always been hesitant just not knowing if it was safe. I was intrigued when I saw an ad for this test that I could do myself. It was so easy to use. I just collected some water on one of our walks and completed the test at home. The results came out that the water is not contaminated. I feel so much better now knowing that my dog can safely swim on our walks.

My dog wants to jump in this pond and I would let him but my husband says no. So I bought this product to see if it would be safe for my dog to jump in the pond.Great and easy product. I would definitely use a bigger container than I did because the test tube needs to be fully submerged. Also don’t be alarmed when it starts boiling and steaming.Test was easy to read!
