  • The Brownlee Classic Electrolysis Apparatus performs electrolysis using J-hook type platinum tipped electrodes positioned under collection tubes that are attached to a plastic support base. This apparatus comes with a glass reservoir to hold liquids. Used in many science education chemistry classrooms and homeschools because it is a fun and interesting experiment.
  • Designed primarily to electrolyze water, this apparatus can be used with many other aqueous solutions. For examples solutions of ammonia, hydrochloric or nitric acids, and sodium chloride.
  • Included in this kit is a support for the electrodes, 2 electrodes, two graduated collection tubes, a 800ml borosilicate glass beaker is provided as a reservoir, and the instruction guide.
  • The recommended power supply is 6-12 volts DC by means of a battery of power supply. The top of the electrodes has a knurl nut for easy connection to a power supply.
  • The Brownlee's Electrolysis Apparatus should be rinsed and dried before it is stored and made ready for the next use.


The classic unit contains J-hook electrodes made with an aluminum rod and platinum foil, graduated collection tubes, an acid resistant base, and glass battery jar.
