Efficere Tools 45-Piece Premium Tap and Die Set in Large Standard Inch Size is your best choice for hand threading jobs at home, garage, shop, and work sites. This thread maker kit is manufactured with highly durable GCr15 bearing steel, and cuts through a wide range of metal pipes and rods, including mild and carbon steel, cast iron, sheet metal, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, block, frame, and much more. Box arrived open, missing 4 taps, case damaged, but I wasn’t planning to use that anywayMy only options are to keep it, or ship it to where I can mail it back, which is cost prohibitive

This was the best option I could find to do large SAE tap and die thread repairs, case is solid and taps have performed well. For this price given pieces and quality it is a good choice. I do see it also available in Metric.

This tool has saved me money, I had mushroomed the threads on the lower ball joint in my car, and I started comparing the cost of repairs with dealerships and mechanic shops to replace the ball joint, I have a tap and die set but the die was too small so I ordered this set

This kit worked very well! I bought this to fix threads on a pinion gear and it worked perfectly. I would definitely buy again and I recommend this kit especially for the price.

I haven't used these yet, so this is based only on inspecting the set. The cutting surfaces look accurately formed, the tap and die bodies appear well ground, and the metal appears appropriately hard and high quality, so I'm optimistic they will work well. (NOTE: I will revise this review if I have any problems when using the taps.)The really sloppy parts are the square ends of the taps. Some are noticeably non-square: asymmetric, rectangular, or only partially formed. It's like the toolmaker ground the spiral cutting flutes and then handed the taps to his dog to try to grind the flats onto them. The centering/alignment holes on the backs of the flats are oddly squished... I don't even know how that's possible without a 1000 ton forging press.The tap wrench is also sort of cheese quality although probably good enough for the job. But honestly I'm not disappointed because the price is extremely good for such a big set (and it's BIG) and it looks like they channeled the quality into the places where it mattered. The tap wrench is arguably just a freebie.Mostly it's just funny to see what corners are cut (literally) when you spend so little to get such a relatively impressive set of tools. Overall I think they will perform just fine, and I would buy again and do recommend the set as long as you understand you can't expect perfection at this price.UPDATE: One other thing to note. The die wrench has large-diameter openings on both ends. This is good for threading long rods where you need to be able to pass the rod through the opening, but it's bad for being able to align the die on a centerline (such as a lathe center) and can make it difficult to start threading exactly straight. This isn't a problem for the taps since they're center punched (although as I noted above, some of the center punches are a little dubious). Keeping 4-star rating since for this price I'm still impressed overall.

Performed well. Nice quality. Wasn’t sure because the price was so reasonable, but would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a starter kit or just something supplemental. Cuts cleanly and leaves a nice finished product.
