These translucent pockets ARE sturdy, with reinforced handles.They snap closed and aren't fully waterproof, so they're designed more for storage and carrying in clear weather.They are definitely on the small side for "posters". Most posters (especially those for classrooms) are much larger.Most classroom teachers have to laminate their posters to extend their use or to prevent kids from scribbling on them. If you have or make your own posters, these pockets will accommodate a ledger (11" x 17") poster with just a bit extra on both dimensions for professional lamination, but only once you have popped out the gussets.Besides posters, these pockets / envelopes / folders can be used for child or adult artwork, art supplies, holiday decorations, small signs and oversize photos or memorabilia.

I wanted a place to keep larger artworks that will hold them flat and keep them safe. These didn't end up being quite big enough for what I wanted (I should have checked first - oops), but are good portfolios all the same. You get four of them in this set, and each one can expand a bit, so you can fit more than one art piece in it. For size reference, the painting in my sample pic is on 9"x12" paper.
