Used this to replace the stock clutch fan with a 18” flex fan. Works great.

This was the exact spacer needed for a Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.7L V8. I used a Flex-a-Lite 1518 Fan with an 851 adapter and this spacer for a perfect fit. Very easy installation using a rental fan clutch removal tool and a 12" adjustable wrench to remove the fan clutch. I did not follow the instructions per the manufacturer. It says to install the adapter and then the spacer then the fan. The bolts with the spacer are the exact length for the installation so I attached the fan, spacer, and bolts to the adapter and torqued the bolts per the manufacturer. The assembly fit easily between the shroud and the water pump and when all was done the position of the fan was exact. The only negative was the adapter is too large for any wrench that I had but because the engine rotation is opposite the adapter thread I tightened the fan assembly by hand and the engine did the rest. Don't do that if you do not feel comfortable but it is the same principle as installing a saw blade on a table saw. Also, Amazon specifically showed this would not fit my Jeep, but the factory said it would work. The fan works great, really great! It is so much light than the stock fan and there is no big, heavy clutch robbing horsepower. My temp guage shows the engine running cooler and no change when pulling a 5' x 8' trailer with appliances.

Good part when used with the spacer. Information is misleading here on Amazon. Answers to question section are incorrect. Part 851 has right hand threads. Engine rotates counterclockwise (reverse) threads go clockwise to tighten (normal.) If you are replacing a fan clutch with this part, a spacer and a flex fan the cooling may not be adequate at idle or especially if stuck in traffic. Clutch removal offen damages the water pump inspect bearings for shaft play. This part does not need to be torqued. Engine rotation will tighten naturally. I applied anti seize to mine.

This adapter is high machine quality. It is a perfect fit on my 2001 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L engine. I did have to go to the local hardware store to pick up 2 1/2" 5/16"/24 bolts to install the flex fan and 2 inch spacer because the spacer came with course thread 5/16"/18 bolts

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The electric cooling fan has quit working numerous times due to poor design. The relay and the fan motor themselves have both been weak points. The cost has been over $100 each repair with no true fix. I changed to this item and attending pieces to provide a final fix. After wrestling with the fan shroud, and adding another spacer and the fan, these three pieces have satisfactorily provided a permanent fix. Been in operation almost a year, now. Working great through warm as well as cold months. I'll not be going back to the electric fan!
